Recently put my name forward for selection in club matches for the Seniors section at Cooden next year.
Got a nice email back from the Chairman, who suggested a game together.
Tee is booked for 11 o'clock this morning.
Have ironed my slacks, brushed my tooth, polished my shoes and cleaned my clubs.
Anything else I should look out for????
It's a tad windy and the forecast says possible rain coming in around lunchtime, so it's ideal club chucking conditions.

They must be very fussy on team selection, if you have to be assessed by the Chairman for your suitability to play. Of course he may have heard about you, and wants to see for himself if the rumours are true.

Don't chat to him if you have a pee together.

Bad man 😄, joking aside is it the norm to be assessed by the Chairman before being selected ?

Iron your waterproofs....

really though could he not just have looked at your comp history and asked around?

Have thrown away my clubs, polished my teeth (the jar of water by the bed needs changing!) brushed my shoes and cleaned my slacks (accidents at my age are common now).

Fixed that for you, Smiffy! :D

Hope you make the team, mate.

I don't think it was an assessment as such, just a friendly way of introduction so that I had the chance to ask any questions regarding the seniors matches. He explained the selection procedures, told me about the clubs that we traditionally hold matches against (I have played all of them before and know them well) and other general "bits and pieces". Nothing really new over what I remember from playing in matches for Crowborough when I was there other than a few different clubs we would be playing.

Does the Chairman play for the team?

In some, not all of the matches.

He did mention that with my standard of handicap I was likely to get in to about 85% of the games, with preference given to those that can put their names down for both home and away games.
