Three hours I spent last night trying to buy a trolley for my brother Xmas present and got nowhere. Despite my debit card being issued by Santander in Isle of Man, no vendor would accept because I live in Thailand. Btw the delivery address is UK.

Why do Amazon, Interflora, Thorntons accept it but American Golf and all the rest of them don't?

This is a case of 'I have money and I want to give you business' yet I am refused. No wonder the economy is going down the bog!

Its frustrating

Similar hassles buying golf bag recently even though I have a UK card, managed to get it through in the end & delivered to in-laws in UK but its sometimes easier just to get them to do the whole transaction

Heard a lot of horror stories about paypal in the past Coatsy and would rather avoid. I understand where you are coming from Slab, but this was supposed to be a surprise for him. Not really the same giving him the cash and asking him to go get it himself.

This is the first time I have experienced this and can't get my head around the short sightedness.

They, and their Banks, are simply taking 'reasonable' protection measures against fraud - as they end up taking the hit when it hppens.

Paypal is indeed the way to go in scxh cases - as the 'checking up' process has already been done. But for 'high value' purchases, it's worth ensuring that you still have the (subsequent claims) security of a Credit Card payment rather than simply Paypal's Claims. process. Paypal rejected a claim of mine that my CC ended up refunding.

So why does Amazon, Interflora, Thorntons, the Whisky Exchange, Marks and Spencer, British Airways, Virgin accept it? And that's just the UK. I use these cards in Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe with ZERO problems, backed up with 'verified by visa' system. Yet some head up their bottom golf shops don't???

Probably because Golf and common sense don't sit well together!

Probably fear - and maybe the association of Thailand with counterfeiting? The loss of high ticket value goods is something reasonable to worry about. Services not quite such a loss - loss of income only - and the likes of BA, Virgin are used to customers paying 'international transactions'.

So a 'positive' for Paypal imo. And a negative of 'working abroad' specially there!

I work internationally. What does that have to do with it?

Did you get the product ordered in the end or are you still waiting to do it?
