Today at our club the Cornwall Golf Academy had their final competition of the winter training sessions.
The boys played a 9 hole medal competition and the girls played a 9 hole stableford comp.
The weather was perfect for golf and even better for the parents walking around with the kids.
After watching most of the kids teeing off, with a few of them almost in tears after the first hole, my daughters group made their way to the first tee. One of the girls she has known for the who winter as they have both been having training sessions at China Fleet GC, the other one she hadn't met before.
The first girl teed off straight into the driving range, the standard shot for most members on that tee, the second girl hit it straight left into the woods. Christina stood proudly on the tee, had a practice swing, lined herself up and belted one down the middle towards the green, then over the green, up a bank and onto the third fairway! A couple of chips and putts and she was on her way.
A 4 on the par 3 second had her confidence on the up and she played the par 4 third well getting down for a 6 after a big bounce saw her approach the the green run through the back.
On the 4th I took the opportunity to take an a photo of her.
After her first shot came up short she chipped on well but was a little over enthusiastic with her first putt but came away with a 5.
After her third tee shot on the fifth flew OOB she enjoyed a stroll up the rest of the hole, meeting Phil, her regular pro, on the way. A few calming words from him and she played well for the rest of the round apart from an unlucky blob on the final hole.
She still came in with a very commendable 19 points with 2 blobs, winning the girls section of the competition and picking up 24 Srixon soft feel balls for her afternoons hard work.
I have also discovered watching your kids play is far more stressful than actually playing the game and a big thank you to my regular playing partner, Gary, who wandered around the course with us.
I am one very proud dad indeed!
