Homer's post on his swing problems reminds me.
I was following a similar thread in another forum recently and the discussion turned to shaft position on the back swing.
I realised that they were talking about the method I was taught many years ago.
My swing had become all hands and arms recently and my game got so bad I have been avoiding the senior rollups and playing (badly) by myself.
I went to the range this morning and remembered to use a one piece takeaway and it started to work for me (after a fashion).

Yup.

I spent weeks earlier this season trying to get my backswing as neutral as possible.

Then I had a lesson telling me that a one piece takeaway is only for beginners and I had to learn to pick the club up much quicker.

Bang

What little idea I had , torn to shreds.

I'm now talking to a different guy, and trying to get my old backswing back ( with a few, much simpler modifications ) and I can slowly feel an improvement every time I'm at the range.

Good basics are so hard to groove into your swing, and so easy to lose.

And bad habits are really difficult to get rid of - especially grip and set up. The "right" way can seem so unnatural that your body reacts on the downswing. My grip was so bad that the new "correct" grip feels really odd. Just got to trust the pro, keep going to the range and believing in the changes.

Well, I went out early this morning and put it in to practice for 9 holes. Not spectacular but my shots went a little further and no disasters.
I might just join the seniors tomorrow. It is the Veteran's Trophy and I get 2 extra shots on handicap because of my age. :D
