No more than a double bogey on the scorecard, but only one par and a handful of bogeys. Came away with 103.

So annoying as overall I felt I played consistently quite well, off the tee in particular, but missed a lot of putts (so many 3s) which ended up costing me dearly. Despite my tee to green work being better than it's ever been probably. Few duffs but there always is.

Should I have been more aggressive and risked a blowout or just keep playing that way and assume the shots will come down quickly once the putts roll in?

Came away feeling a bit deflated as felt I played well....

Once you have got the big scores off its about keeping the doubles off.

Don't be more aggressive, just make your bad shots better and the doubles will turn into bogeys at worst.

I had quite the opposite today.... went for a round by myself at my club and hit my best score there... 80 (9 over). To be fair it's been coming for a little while, I just needed to keep a big score off the card, even sticking one in the pond on a relatively easy par 4 didn't put me off. Long may it continue.

Don't worry about it, it'll take a few rounds to learn how to play the course and get to know the greens.

I know, it's just I normally take an extra shot to get there but will 2-putt everything, where as I was getting there quicker, and then wasting the extra shot on the green! Rather than saving that shot as normal and putting in a decent score. It will come, I keep telling myself that!!!

Scurge of the handicap golfer. Trying to get it all together on the same day. It's fun trying though. It's what keeps us going back.

I played yesterday for the first time in maybe a month and played pretty well up to the 8th, then blobbed 3 of 4 and then got it together again before playing poorly on the final 2 holes. 104 in the end, 29 points. Had a lesson on Tuesday so was trying to work that in too so overall I was fairly pleased although the score didn't reflect it really (as every golfer says)

Thanks all, yeh, I guess it is a case of continuing to improve on those bad scores, and focus on the greens as well, as I adjust to the speed and movement of them.

I would say now focus on the bad SHOTS and make your bad shots better, you have proven you can keep big scores off the card, the next step is those thins, fats and duffs for full shots pitches and especially chips.

A good chip/pitch should always leave a 2 putt at worst. Up and downs are nice but you can't always have them. One of my last areas to remove duffs from was chipping, saved me a couple of shots a round at LEAST sorting that out.

One of the lads has started playing with us and his putting is /was woeful,
i keep telling him to get his first putt in the dustbin lid area. It is helping loads.
make sure you have 5-10 mins on the greens and finish off with 10 X 3 ft putts on the level and focus focus focus.
