Just back from spending a nice couple of days with friends who are keen golfers. They have a delightful dog who is allowed on the course with them when they play at their 2 regular clubs.
She is very well behaved, walks alongside (off the lead) and the moment owner stops, dog lies down.
Occasionally she will head off into the undergrowth to chase imaginary rabbits and squirrels.

However I asked at our club what their policy is about dogs, and it was a no, so Bootsy was not allowed to come along when they played at ours.

What's your Club policy on dogs?
Do you approve of it?

Not sure we have a policy. Never seen a dog on the course though. I saw several being walked on a lead at Blackmoor on Sunday and all were impeccably behaved. James Hunt the F1 driver use to have a massive alsatian that wouldn't move a muscle without his say so. Never seen such a well mannered dog. Unlike his owner when he'd lose one in the trees.

Not sure if Members can take dogs out but we have a footpath that crosses the course so we get a fair few canines .
The other week we saw a squirrel legging it across the 5th fairway - a Spaniel was chasing it. Squirrel made it to the safety of the trees and the dog ambled back, saw a pheasant and started legging it after that instead..stupid bird tried to outrun the dog until it realised it couldn't and took to the air.
Dog looked crestfallen and Wimbledon back to find "Mum" who appeared a minute later.
We asked he if she fed her dog at all because he seemed hungry..
No issue with dogs on the course as long as they're under control and any poop is removed.

We also have a couple of public footpaths that dog walkers use.
I don't know if this is a factor in the "no golfer's dogs" policy.

There's a few members who leave their dogs in the car (always in shade with windows open) whilst playing.

Our committee have just agreed that dogs on leads are ok for casual rounds. Interesting that the only ones I've seen so far are with committee members!

Nairn has a no Dogs allowed on the course. But with the law in Scotland on outdoor access, every other Tom, Dick and Harry is walking across the course with his dog, usually off the lead.

Tain Is fine with it and even provide a water bowl by the tap near the 11th tee. Royal Dornoch also allow members to take dogs on the course during play.

When i was a country member a Moray i used to take both my dogs with me to play. They both had to be kept on a lead though far too many rabbits. on one occasion they both spotted a rabbit while i was putting out, chased it into a gorse bush along with my bag a trolley, they had their leads attached too. A right old mess that was.

I've not seen one being walked while someone played, apart from on Christmas Day last year.
Head green keeper has a dog and he travels around in a mini john deere flat bed with his owner.
My dog won't walk more than 100 yards so I won't ask if I can.

No dogs allowed as is the case at most courses in the NW, the only one I'm aware of that does allow them is Formby.
I'd love to take ours out on the course even though she is a bit nuts, I'm sure I could train her though.
Its always intrigued me that in general it's only some of the best courses in the country that allow dogs. I get the reasons why though..

My old course allowed it, my current one has a statement on the front page of the website forbidding them. Shame as my dog used to love running around my last place. Lots of freedom and smells to follow. I would never take her out if the course was busy though, not well trained enough for that.

Sir John Starkey who owns Norwood had a chocolate Labrador which was forever walking round our place. Usually with a dead pheasant he had caught ( the dog ). I took young Bradley Tash last year to the rememberance day service at a place on the course where a Lancaster Bomber crashed during the war. Sir John was there with his dog, I gave it a stroke and its hair was like it was covered in Mangy grease. It stunk. Unfortunately passed away a couple of months later. Loads of dog wwalkers walk through the course due to paths. Never had a problem with one dog. But not seen any members with them.

We used to take Bessdog along to a previous course late on. Met the Club Sec and H'cap sec on several occasions. Never any bother. She was brilliant apart from she loved rolling in the bunkers... she never raked one. Yours truly raked at least one bunker per hole.

Our course is part of a track where people like to go trekking up the hills so we often get people wandering around with dogs. 90% (owners and dogs) are very good but I've never seen a member walking round with their dog in the middle of a round. Couldn't see it being a problem tbf!

Our club banned dogs from even being on the patio after a member turned up with 4 of them and had his tea.
Shame really, wouldn't mind taking mine up there on a summer's evening

Not seen any players taking a pet dog to golf. Just see the odd stray/wild dog now and again but as a location the course its not a great food source for them so they'll go where there's more humans/rubbish instead

A mate of mine is convinced that it isn't a proper gold club if there aren't people taking their dogs for a walk whilst playing.

Which, of course, is nonsense but i get his point.

No dogs allowed at ours, but Bad Bevensen, where I was a member before I moved back home, did allow them (as long as they were well behaved). I think official policy was that they had to be on a leash at all times, though. And I know there is a yearly comp in Germany, the HuGo-cup (for "Hund", German for "dog" and "golf") where many dog owning golfers meet up.
