This is the first time I've played Chesfield Downs, labbelled an in-land links course by crown golf. It was windy but very open so I found it quiet easy, saying that I did find most fairways and played excellent off the tee. We didnt have any temp greens but a couple of tem tee'ss so a few holes played a tad shorter, not much at all though.

My short irons were terrible today, hence the 3rd hole! I'm gutted because a 5 on the third would have seen me break 90 for the first time. It was playing what i thought about 130yds with a strong wind behind so pulled out a 9 iron. Straight in the drink, drop another ball short of the water, that one went for a swim aswell. Wasn't duffing the next one so smashed it.... straight in to the bunker at the back of the green.

Anyway, good signs, I 10 so early in the round would have usually seen me go to pieces yet i ended up shooting 44pts.

Minty :)

Well done Minty! Thats a cracking score on a new course in windy conditions. Its a shame about that 10. Mind you if you had made par there you would have been labelled a bandit!

Minty there are two 7's and a 10 in there that destroy a blooming great round for your h/c, if you can sort out the odd slip like that in a round you wont be needing 27 h/c, in fact, bummer to that, you dont need it now! :D

The curse of the high handicapper, a few bad holes. I'm sure sooner or later i'll have a round without a card wrecker.

Positve my handicap will tumble this year, i hope so anyway.

Well done minty, looks like a steady round you had today mate.

i played with the society lads today at TonyN's track and won with 45pts off a 33 Handicap nearest runner up was 37pts.

I'm absoloutely chuffed. I will also have my handicap cut by about 9 shots to 24 ;)

Minty, so you blanked on one hole.
Bloody good going for a 27er.
I imagine that is your best score to date. I had a card like yours last year (not as many points however!) It too was on a first time course.
I think the reason behind it is that you don't really know the course, where the hazards are etc. In short, you let rip on every hole.
I've never put a good Stableford card at my course. I put it down to tentative play.

Well done mate, a card to be proud of!

I was coasting, two over for 6, not having played that well, trying to rework my swing for a draw on every shot. Come the 7th, a sneaky 9, from 140 yards in, approach to bunker, knife to trees, chip, chip, thin, top, bunker, putt. Damn. Rest of round pretty good, but counting out the window.

Finished birdie, bogey, birdie though, so not all bad. And the bogey wasa good drive, hooked second, knifed bunker shot, Michelsonesque flop shot to 5", and solid putt. Outside of Crowborough, boy am I good at those 5"ers.

Good scoring there mate.

A couple of holes letting you down there but thats my problem as well. Played on Wednesday and for 14 of the holes I was 3 over but the other 4 were a disasterous 10 over.
Consistency is the key, and Im still looking for it.

Nice going Minty. That's my home track :)

That par 3 3rd can be a nightmaire into the wind (dropped mine in the water on Thursday too). So can the par 3 12th, always seem to be a good gust in your face on that one.

What do you think of the 7th, 260 yard par 4 surrounded by bunkers. Good fun to have a go at that one :D

The course can be a real struggle if you're not driving well. Lots of bunkers positioned around the 200-220 mark.

But nice shooting. I'm out tomorrow so it gives me a score to aim at ;) I've been shooting mid-90's so far.

Westy, I enjoyed the course mate and it has a lovely club house, i was more than impressed with the whole set up of the golf club.

As you can see i got a birdie 3 on the driveable par 4, got my drive away well but the wind pushed it left, wedge on then short putt for a 3.

I did find it fairly easy and it's hard to lose a ball but its a great course for me to play every now and again with my Crown Golf membership.

The greens we're pretty decent aswell,

Glad you liked it m8. I know what you mean about the course right now. The rough is cut right back, so even if you are a bit wayward you still don't get yourself in much trouble.

I'm told they let it grow up in the summer.

Next time you fancy a round up there give me a shout and if I'm free I'll come join you.

Good stuff westy. The rough did suprise me, i thought it would be a lot thinker however if you found the rough it just sat your ball up for you.

I'll PM you when i'm around for a game. We have a few people local on here so could arrange a forum meet.
