this just arrived, 1962 reissue Fender Jaguar in Daphne blue with matching headstock.

going to be using this for a couple of gigs as i don't want to take the original in lake placid blue in case its stolen.

That's lovely. Always thought some guitars wear a matching headstock better than others - that's nailed it!

What kind of stuff do you play?

used to play in Indie stuff, a friend has a sort of Rockabilly trio and asked me to play some back up guitar for them in a couple of gigs.
Sort of Cramps stuff.

Thinking of doing some Cocteau twins covers at local venue as well

Nice looking guitar.

Very 60s indeed. Still very tempted to buy a blonde Tele I saw at the local music shop a few weeks ago, after regretting having flogged one I that I loved about 25 years ago.

Sounds really interesting. Was never quite the same after hearing/seeing 'Bikini Girls..' as an impressionable young chap. Never ventured far into the Cocteau Twins catalogue, will have a go this afternoon whilst reviewing reports.

I do like the idea of a vintage Telecaster but cant justify the price with the amount I play these days. I have a nice Gretsch Electromatic but moved into Classic around 20 years ago so have a some nice Classic's.

That looks awesome. On a seperate note having decided to take up the guitar (first lesson next monday) any thoughts on a reasonable first guitar (Sorry for the hijack)

Love that band! Only discovered them last year when I was watching a BBC Four documentary about indie music. I love Elizabeth Frasers voice

Heaven or Las Vegas so far.. Beautiful stuff to my ears, at least. Will try some more today, recommendations welcome!

i would have a listen to some of the earlier stuff;

like Millamillanary, from the flagstones and sugar hiccup, then

The Blue bell Knoll and four Calendar Cafe....LPs

just shows you don't need to me technically good guitar player to make some amazing sounding records

Thanks for the tip, there's my afternoon set up nicely

Agree wholeheartedly about the technical comment, especially as it's what you don't play that makes the difference sometimes - paraphrasing a cliche'd old friend of mine (and countless others probably) here but he's dead right.

My long time favorites are still probably Johnny Marr and John Squire from my era. Not that flashy but dominate their records.

When i first heard and saw the Smiths back in the 82, i had never heard anyone play like that before. It sounded really complicated and technical, but it was incredibly simple. same with the Earlier Stone roses stuff.

Rock/Indie rock whatever you want to call it these days.

I have been offered two epiphone guitars at what seems a reasonable price Epiphont SG310 - £90 or Epiphone Les Paul Special ii - £60

The Les Paul sounds a good buy at that price and would make a nice starter.

Epis are usually a great value first guitar. Play them both and pick the one that feels best - do not go on looks to start with :)

Also, look on ebay for Squier Affinity Strat or Tele, or Yamaha Pacifica - all excellent value starter guitars

Try and try out whatever you buy if at all possible

Some great bargains out there following the past 10 or so years' improvements in manufacturing

Hope the lesson goes well

Finished listening to The Blue Bell Knoll just now - fabulous! I'm becoming quite a fan.. Saw a couple of nice Jaguars in some old footage from around 88', very nice indeed:D

I was a big fan until 84 when treasure came out, which i didn't like, didn't really listen to them again until Blue bell knoll came out as the girl i was with at the time was really into them, where as i had gone more jangley indie by then. 60's influence and had my first Rickenbacker 12 string.
