some may remember i trying to find a club to join and and iv boiled down to either wrotham heath gc or rochester cobham gc, rocherster is about £200 dearer but is only 5 minutes from my house while wrotham is 25 minutes away. also i like to have a laugh and not be so serious and for some reason im thinking rocherster is a bit snooty ? so my question is what one would you pick ?

Thanks for all the help.

I'd ask for complimentary game at both to decide. I did play Wrotham last year and found it a very pleasant course

They both said once iv been accepted by the committee then I can play 9 holes with a member. Its tough as iv never played them and only going by other golfers reviews.

Id want tp play before that to see if I want to ask the committee for membership

This.

They should be selling themselves to you, not the other way round.

I'd go for Wrotham, seemed very friendly when I was there (although not played r and c )

Can't you ask for a guest round and then ask for the fee off your subs?

Other thing that would put me off r and c. Is the joining fee.

I've only ever played Wrotham and was very impressed with half the course. Some of the holes, 1, 9, 10 and 18 were a bit boring but the back half of the course through the trees was very good fun indeed.

The only way to know would be to play them. Get accepted by both committees, play them both so you have your favorite then tell each club that your trying to choose between the two and then they should hopefully try to tempt you in.

Their the only courses iv heard nothing bad about in the area.

lol

they really are quite different courses and clubs.

my only experience, other than playing the courses, was when I was on the waiting list at R&C back in the early '80's; got a call on a Monday from the secretary asking if I could play with a committee member the next morning - unfortunately, as a normal working person this wasn't possible and I never heard from them again! Thing's change in 30 years though.

I wouldn't expect a trial round, and in many ways it would seem strange to me that someone who wants to join a club wouldn't invest a single green fee to play the courses - you should also visit the bar around 1 on a Sat to get the best feel for the 'club'.

You can only play on the week day and I work mon-fri I know it's a massive risk to join without playing but they don't give you many choices.

ah.....we would certainly entertain you on a guest rate at an appropriate time one weekend, and do our best to find you company too!

One of the new guys in our swindle left R and C to join us this year, could ask him when we next play, but that won't be for a few weeks.
