Am on the verge of giving up this stupid game ,last season i was down to 9 and enjoying the game now i find myself playing of 11 and just going thru the motions. I seem to have lost my love for the game, i always look forward to playing different courses new challanges but now i cant be bothered.

I've recently had 3 lessons which i thought would help ,i thought they were working but really they've just scrambled my brain to the point that my swing now looks like a wrecking ball on acid, if i make contact i dont even know which direction it will go its that bad, i,ve even started to get the putting yips from inside 2 feet.

I'd have given up by now but am booked to play the Pitlochry Open in 2 weeks and am off to Ireland for a week in 4 weeks time both have been paid for.

In desperation on saturday my mate said just try and be like Freddie Couples who seems to saunter about with his trainers on and not a care in the world it lasted 2 shots then the demons came back and messed me about.

Apologies guys for the suicide note :)but thats the way my game is :) :) :) :)

Sounds like you need some time off Buddy.

After your commitments, take a month off. Don't touch a club.
After that you'll be itching to come back!

sounds as if you need to empty out the rubbish and get just one or two clear positive swing thoughts that work.
Is it the contact or the direction that has gone walkabout?

Don't give up pal - always keep going.

This game is the most frustrating game in the world - even the top players can't master it. If they can't, what hope do you and I have??

As amateurs I think we put far too much pressure on ourselves. It's natural to want to play well every time we play but it's not going to happen.

I work on the premise that I'm very, very fortunate to be able to play this great game. I have the financial means and a good Wife who affords me the time. I pity those who aren't able to play this game.

I always try and play well but if it's clear that it's not my day then I simply think that it could be worse, I could be at work!!

Keep plugging away - it'll come back - it always does.

The best thing to do is just not worry about it and just swing the club. Exhale through you're nose before youre shot and swing back then forward. I don't think you should have a break because if you're working on things you'll just go back to you're old ways and probably end up worse. And remember you're never always going to hit the perfect shot

Even went out Sunday night for 9 holes course was empty played 2 holes and came of lost 5 balls and not one of them went in the same direction it just hacks me right off.
Sitting in the pub saturday my mates were going on about looking forward to going to Ireland for the week golfing, i didnt even raise a smile about a place i love going so much thats how bad it is. :(

Thanks in advance for any advice guys it looks like an early season break.

Steve,

I know exactly where you are coming from. If you want any salvation just have a flick through my blog. It charts a season full of optimism and one where I can't repeat two swings on the course. I got so low the other week I was set to walk off for the first time since I was a junior.

It is starting to come. I had a lesson booked for Sunday that got cancelled by the and I thought it was going to give me the missing pieice. I went out yesterday albeit in a better ball format and hit some good shots and came in when I needed to.

If you've ever seen my swing on here you'll know its rubbish technically and has so much that can go wrong. You'll know by now how over technical I get and play with a head full of chocolate frogs. I'm trying to think of nothing at all on the course. The point of my rambling is stick it out. Play the Open without fear. The worst that can happen is you'll finish last. I did that in my division in the medal. It isn't the end of the world. You never know, a change of country and different courses may be the boost you need.

I spoke a lot about losing my mojo. For me a week without any form of practice (even putting on the carpet) was like a lifetime. When I went back on the course my game is still rubbish but I have a clamer and more relaxed approach to it. I can't offer a miracle answer other than to keep plugging away and a belief that you will turn a corner

The whole lot Bob literally the whole lot.

Steve, the first thing to remember is that you haven't forgotten how to play, it's just thats its got a bit out of synch.
All you will need is a little tweak and you'll be back shooting 75 again

It is just my opinion but it sounds like your trying too hard and not enjoying yourself.
Maybe you should try and get out for a few on your own, hit a few shots at the greens and just generally chill out, if it doesnt go where you want it too, its ok, it makes the next shot exciting!!
try not to think about how you are swinging when your out also, just pic your shot and play it. stop over anylising or worrying about results, and see what happens.

Failing that, take some time out mate, it is meant to be fun, most of us take it seriously, but we dont get paid for it, well the vest majority of us dont!!

Good luck

Steve keep at it man,
I had an abismal day yesterday and felt the very same...I posted so you can see but i got some great words of encouragement on here so much so that i cant wait for saturday to come about....
What part of our land are you coming to....Iv got a few complimentary's for our course your more than welcome to if you'd like to just stroll around like freddie couples ;)
Id be happy to play a round with someone from the forum.

What he said!

I sort of know what you might be feeling, I was there last year on the cusp of 4 then it was solid 0.1's to the point I was nearly off 7.

You've had lessons. I'm not going to say ignore your Pro but for me it was about back to basics. It may not be right but it's whats right for me but thats probably why I'm so inconsistent. I'm a feel player rather than technique. When it's good it's good and when it's bad....oh well!

Hope your blues is only a passing phase.

His posts sound exactly the same as mine when I was as low as him and everyone said exactly the same to me. Get back to enjoying it and not looking for a miracle swing. Hit it and find it and forget about scores. For my mindset this was the biggest challenge but I'm starting to get there now. Definitely leaving swing thoughts on the range and trying to enjoy the round instead of enduring it.

One of you guys said to me - remember KISS (not the band) - keep it simple stupid and its what I've been taking round with me

Thats what my lessons are about just now simply slowing down my swing and remaining in balance however I am not a low handicapper but its working for me. Maybe worth a try. I have a medal tomorrow so hoping to continue my steady play.

Hey Steve....I am amongst the least qualified to advise on anyones problems with their game, but one thing I do know is that you were great company on a pretty grim day weatherwise as we splashed our way round Spey Valley.

Maybe try to forget how you're scoring for a round or two and just enjoy being outdoors with your mates, after all you could be in worse places!

Bob is spot on. Every now and then I go to my pro just for a wee tune, strip back the rubbish and get back to getting a good strike on the ball. Still have the odd shocker but if your head is full of all sorts you will hit all sorts. I would be tempted to see another pro. I've seen a few over the years but the best one keeps it simple.
