Why is it that those almond biscuits we dunk in good coffee are referred to as "biscotti" when you only have one (..and a biscotti please...) Same as those warm Italian style sandwiches - are they really "panini" in the singular?
I speak French and Spanish fluently, and enough Italian to know that Italian masculine plurals, like these two examples, end in "i", but their singulars end in "o". Surely a biscotto and a panino?
