My club has introduced an on-line booking system (BRS) and today is the go-live date.

to start with it is just for Saturday's (comp days) but will soon be rolled out to Sunday's and Wednesday's (the other weekly comp day)

as as a relatively traditional members club, (I've only been a member just over a year), I've learned that it has been a lengthy process to get this agreed by the membership and implemented, so it will be interesting to see how the Big Bang goes at 8pm tonight when the start sheet for next Saturday opens up.

if nothing else it will stop people block booking tee times, currently a start sheet goes up at 7 am the Saturday before.

i generally play in a group of 6 (3balls only on comp days), so we need 2 times, the plan is for one of the group to access the system on 2 devices with his login and that of 1 other member of the group. Hopefully we'll be able to get 2 times together at around lunchtime, our preferred time.

Any experiences good or bad, of BRS booking systems?

Plenty on here in the past - views are diverse.
It works at some clubs, it wouldn't work at others - that's the basic premise!
We have it, it works and I like it.

booking systems are great - the real test (as indicated in your post) is whether they support the clubs aims; and those of individual members.

relative to the use of HDID or Intelligent Golf, as examples, I don't find our implementation of BRS to be particularly useful - but then again we only use BRS for non competition bookings.

we also deliberately don't have the capability for members to block book (book on behalf of others) live (it's available in most systems) and actively discourage the same groups from playing together in every competition (recognising that there's a balance in there somewhere!

finally, we have competition booking live from 45 days ahead - which works well for us.

Will work for some but not others - cant see it happening at our place and like the idea of being able to turn up and just play - that's the way the current membership like

I agree with this, but the imminent booking system is just for comps (sat and wed) and Sunday's, which we already have start sheets for. The system is just a modern online version of this with the ability to do it remotely rather than having to do it at the club.

mon, tue, thur, fri will remain as open tee, just turn up and play

Ah right

We have an online booking system and psi booking for comps and bar a few teething issues it doesn't seem to cause any issues - we enabled the buddy system to allow people on the PSI to book a three ball with them and two mates. The online booking is normally available a day after the club psi

We have the brs system and a bit of a dcramble ensues at the time comps go live for the high demand slots if your not active within 5mins you wont get the time you want. But as its done 3 weeks ahead usually you can get quite near with drop outs.
We are allowed to book ourselves plus 2 others so you still get tegular 3 balls and groups playing at the same ish times.
Where it does help is with new members being able to just book on alongside 2 others or book a time and let people join them.

We have booked comp times and aside from that come and go when you please. Comps are in the diary, on the website and the notice boards and so you've no excuse for not knowing when they are on. Avoid those and everything is peachy. We have a number of roll ups at weekends and midweek which are very accommodating to newbies and so there are regular games that you can use or you can just go out before or after these.

Traditional members club here , we have BRS for everything, works well as we do get a lot of visitors and societies so easy to see on any given day how busy the course will be.

We've got it.

"Traditional" members club also (whatever that means).

Works a treat, I wasn't a member when it can in but can imagine there were some dissenting voices.

We cant book into comps remotely though, have to do it at the club. No issue for me as 4 minutes drive and I'm there loads anyway during the season.

At quiet times you can still just rock up and go out, few groups doing that when I was at the practice ground at lunchtime.

Well, it appears there are a few gremlins in the system to be ironed out.

when the system went live at 8pm the only ones available to book were from 2pm onwards.

the online start sheet still has empty slots between 0730 and 1400.

expect there'll be a start sheet up on the wall tomorrow for next week as usual until they sort the system out

No booking at ours, it was the biggest surprise to me when I joined, must've asked the question "so I just turn up and go out? About 4 times.

Id recomend that 2 of you do the booking. When ours goes live at 1600 most slots are booked by 1601. If you're trying to book 2 slots at the same time chances are you could come unstuck and end up with the groups being split or one with and one without. Just from my experience at my club.

The plan was that one of us would do 2 bookings on separate devices, using logins from 2 of the group,

system is now sorted so booked for our usual tee time of 1300 hrs

happy days

I like the booking system though, with a young family I know when I'm playing and can plan accordingly. Ours is in use on Tuesday's and Friday-Sunday. Seems to work well and has been fully accepted by the members.

Expecting a lot of moaning and grumbling from the Luddite establishment because the system didn't work as planned immediately, currently there are only 17 tee slots booked on the competition course for next Saturday, out of 44, so a lot of people have either not been able to use it, or have given up after the initial problems.

I like the way the system works, I like how it looks, and I think it should be beneficial as it means I won't have to take pot luck as to what times are available for the following week when I turn up to play each week.

Was a member at Highwoods GC. No online booking system. Hated it, especially at week-ends. One of the reasons I left.
Now at Cooden. Online booking system. Couldn't be easier. Love it.
I know that I am teeing off next Weds at 11am and on Bank Holiday Monday at 9.16. What's not to like?
