Just played a cracking match in our 4BBB Winter League, me and my partner off 12 and 13 scored a gross 3 over 75 but could only get a half.

We knew we were up against it when the opposition’s 16 handicapper holed his 6 iron from just over 150 yards for an eagle two on the third.

I had a first time birdie on our tough dogleg sixth though when I put an 8 iron to inside three feet, which was nice. :)

One down with three to play, we birdied 16 to go square, halved 17 in par and then both parred the difficult par 5 18[SUP]th[/SUP].
Great match, hopefully we’ll get a win soon....

Sometimes it happens. I played a 24 handicapper a few years back. I chipped in for eagle on the par 5 5th and he hit a shot from claggy rough to 6 inches for a birdie nett eagle and a half. Sometimes you just can't play against it. At least a half keeps you on track and isn't as damaging as losing

Good luck playing Winter League round there! Is it still a bog at the first sign of rain, or have they sorted the drainage out at long last?

It's much better now, although continuous heavy rain will still cause problems in some areas of the course.

The course was basically mown out from fields on good old Leicestershire clay so it's never going to be the best draining but I don't think it's any worse than others in the area now.
I can live with it anyway!

No need to tell me about the clay - I live in the village so struggle with it every time I dig the garden!!
