So, I applied. I wasn't that fussed t.b.h. but the family said "may as well".
:) :D

I just hope we don't get them all, or even the athletics final or I might get debitted £3,000 all at once.

Gulp. :(

Anyone else had a crack?

Erm, no.

I, along with 99% of the country, have 0 interest in the Olympic Games.

London, and the UK for that matter, have more important issues to resolve which require large sums of money. Rather than squander millions on this white elephant of a sporting event, the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Plus, the leaders of the various Olympic councils in the UK are arguing. What over?? Money!!

Oh, and who gets the Olympic stadium when it's all over?? A football team. Like football needs any help!!

Someone, somewhere is getting a nice little bunce out of the 2012 Olympics.

I applied to be a volunteer at the athletics and rowing. I hope to get a gig inside the stadium (long shot) and savour the atmosphere of world class athletes competing and the rowing is local and a good chance we may get a few medals

Another event for the Londoners that the rest of us are having to subsidise. Like the wedding on Friday most people I talk to couldn't care less about it. What a waste of money.

I applied for a few tickets, so fingers crossed I get some. I went to the games in Beijing and the atmosphere was really good, I'm sure it will be even better this time.

I dont volunteer HID justs involves me anyway!

Coo, I didn't know that you could get medals for it HID would certainly get gold!

Sorry HJS misread your post - you meant rowing as in boats , didn't you?

Factoid.
The most expensive ticket at the last olympics in Byjingo was $685. (About £415)

The most expensive ticket I saw for sale for London was £325 although I went for the cheaper options.

I love the olympics and applied for most events in the cheaper seats but would love to get a seat at the cycling or the rowing.

I live 40 miles from London and will be desperate to see something at these Olympics as I doubt there will be another one in the UK in my lifetime

I have applied for athletics, gymnastics and cycling and have a £1500 comittment if I got them all. I will be happy just with one pair of tickets though

I realised afterwards that I forgot to ask for Brazil v Italy in the Ladies Beach Volleyball tickets, how stupid of me!

Meant to apply last night, but was so ill I slept from 4pm yesterday afternoon right the way through to 8am this morning :(

There's an official ticket exchange that's being put on early next year for people to sell tickets (at face value) that they don't need/want, so I will be trying my luck with those.

I'm not sure where the 99% fact comes from...I must be the 1% because I have applied for five events and although I dodn't expect to be successful for everything that I have applied for, I will look forward to attending. Mind you if I am the 1% then I should receive all of the tickets applied for.

HID kept saying that we should go but I'd be really p'off to get stuck with rhythmic gymnastics or formation drowning so managed to 'forget'. ;)
Come the day we shall have been 'unlucky'
in not being allocated a ticket :o :D :D :D

Like Soctttish devolution and free University education for Scottish teenagers but no-one else , etc etc
- Shall we stop funding Chris Hoy and all those other "Scottish" heros that you hate being called British ;)

I dont remember anyone shouting about having to stump up for the Commenwealth Games in Edinburgh and Manchester from anyone in London

And God Forbid that the R&A ever thinks of taking the Open Championship to either North Kent or Perthshire - another waste of money that golfers the world over have to subsidise for only those lucky B***ds who happen to live by the sea, and who therefore get to see Tiger Woods et al, whereas us posh gits who live (geographically rather than financially) near Wentworth have never got a cats hells chance of seeing him play

Anyway, what does Tiger Woods and all those other lazy hanger ons of the professional golf tours ever do for the average people; they are only good for the American public, not the average British worker like me, and anyone who marries them deserves to be "**** in the face" (to quote the other obnoxious response on a similar related thread; that even in sarcasm i can;t bring myself to even paraphrase let alone copy!)/. We don't need professional golfers in this country, we want a republic

Er, perhaps i've got my threads mixed up ;)

What a load of tosh

I saw Tiger Woods at Wentworth!

Also saw him at The Grove and St Georges

The Commonwealth games are hosted by the host nation, ie Scotland funded Edinburgh, and England hosted Manchester. How did London fund the Edinburgh games? As for University Fees, the free places in Scotland are funded by the Scottish taxpayer and not the UK.

Yes i know all that
What i obviously didnt make absolutely clear in my vague long winded poor attempt at sarcasm, was that one is either british or not, not when it suits and not when it doesnt.
I mean Newham are not paying for the Olympics. in the same way that the lcoal authorities in England Scotland and Wales get mooney from central Govt, ie all of us.

I pay for things in my tax that go to Scottish constituencies. That;s what being part of a country, society or Union is about. better people than we decided that was overall a good idea
