24 of us off on Sunday to Old Thorns for our annual 3-day trip and really looking forward to it.

Only problem is that I've given myself an extremely "iffy" knee after doing 36 round Frilford Heath Blue on Wednesday and hope it clears up by then (I don't belieeeev...just my luck! sounding like an Adrian Mole Victor Meldrew mash-up here:mmm:)

Haven't played since then but walking was painful yesterday although not quite so bad today. We're only doing 18 each day, so...

Weather looks OK for Sunday but App suggesting it's distinctly meh! for Monday and Tuesday. I told them we should have done Costa del Sol! You cannot rely on UK weather.

So although really looking forward to it, as it was great last year, fingers well and truly crossed on a couple of fronts. Still you know what they say...beware the injured golfer!

Take it easy.....don't be embarrassed to strap her up if needed.

Few wonder pills, nice relaxing soak....

And if there is a spa/Jacuzzi/sauna at the course...use it. They would be my suggestions.

Yes they have a great leisure facility so plenty of that. Just can't believe I've injured myself with 3 days to go. Bah!

Always the way. If you were looking at a 2 week break form the game you would have walked off the 18th feeling like a spring chicken...

I believe it's called Murphy's law in some parts of the world......;)

I love Old Thorns, probably the best course I've ever played

How very true

Really? :smirk:

It's a nice mixed abilities track and the leisure facilities are excellent, but come on now, I'm sure you must've played better. You're own place is spoken of very highly by some of my PPs although I've never had the pleasure myself.
Ah... now wait just a cotton-pickin moment. I get it...you're just joshing me aren't you, you scamp! :ears:

Just don't go on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
The 1st and 2nd fairways are roped off for banger racing.
Yep Gordon's sarcastic, homers obviously never been. It's a goat track. It's not even in the top two courses in liphook, and I'm only aware of one more. :o

Apart from that...enjoy

Kinda agree with this...not quite a goat track but close to it. Is it the 5th that has the tee uber high? You can tee off walk down the hill and fairway and wait for your ball to land :p

Wouldn't exactly describe it as a 'goat track' in the traditional way, but not a course that is kind to knees!! Has a hole, now changed slightly, that is the only one I've 5-putted, with the 2nd and 3rd being from further away then the 1st!

Maybe "goat track" is a little unfair, but it's not pretty is it?
Best hole there is the 3rd. Fantastic par 4 that you could transplant anywhere and it wouldn't look out of place. Only problem with that hole is the bloody walk up the cart path to the tee.
But the rest of it???
Nah. Not for me.

Ok, I was exaggerating a bit, not the best I've ever played but definitely the best non heathland course in Liphook

To be fair it's no Augusta but don't really get the major negatives. Our lot have played quite a few 'name' courses in the past and based on last year elected to go back to OT as we enjoyed it, unlike some other places where would never revisit.

Having said that a lot of our trip is for the 'social' aspect and as the facilities are pretty good it suits us just fine.

Well I like it ! Good test off the back sticks and some very good holes imo. Decent enough hotel and generally a nice spot for a golf trip.

If it's a goat track, then I would love to know what you would make of a few courses I could name!
