as some of you might of seen i put up a post about me wanting some new clubs, the new dilema is do i buy new or second hand? iv seen the clubs i want and there not a bad price but iv also had a look at the second hand option and there around 75- 100pound cheeper. does anyone know if there would be much difference in quility or do i just pay the extra and get brand new?

For £75.00 I'd buy new....if I could afford it. Nothing like "brand new" shinies to make you feel good. If it were a couple of hundred quid I'd buy used.
If you really are strapped for cash then second hand would do, there are some nice "nearly new" clubs out there that you would be hard pushed to notice were used.

Personally i'd always buy new unless they were immaculate. At least with new you have a bit more of a sell on value if you decide to upgrade.

For that difference, get new.

I buy lots of 2nd hand gear....usually at about 30% of original price.....

I've only bought two brand new clubs since I started a couple of years ago. A £19.99 Golden Bear driver, which I soon discarded, and a £30 Jack Nicklaus Ez-Up 3W, which I don't use for some reason. Everything else, I've bought secondhand, and they're absolutely fine.

I would've thought secondhand clubs will hold their price better as well, if you don't decide to keep them.

If you know what you want then haggle on a second hand set get a wee bit more off; or haggle new grips, its the new grip that makes the club feel new.

Once you hit your brand new irons they will be worth £75-£100 less straight away anyway, find a mint set, save the money for a nice hybrid or a couple of lessons, new putter whatever but for me if you have made up your mind on what you want your as well saving money.

Good luck.

Don't think I would buy new again! My playing partner bought a brand new set of mizuno mp67 and it took 2 rounds for them to look used. My set are 3 years old and look as shiny and lovely as the day i got them. Places like Golf Bidder do great clubs and they are all graded so you can get a feel on how good a condition they are in
