Or am I just stupid?

I went to see my pro today after my game has started to go backwards after a brief spell of improvement and it turns out I my take-away is almost back to where it was when I had my first lesson which is way too flat and I hadn't even noticed. I had suspected I was drifting back into an old habit somewhere, but not that, and not that drastically. TBH I felt a bit dim, this is the 6th lesson I've had and every time we talk about this very thing yet in 4 weeks I've almost gone back to square one without even noticing. I guess it goes to show the importance of a regular swing checkup. I won't be making that mistake again!

Might be worth popping your swing on film, currently with the fault and then again when the pro gets you to where you want to be with it. Then when ever you are struggling again (and even when going well) you can self check that you are doing what you think you are (its amazing what the camera can show up compared to what you feel you are doing)

Yeah I was thinking that, the lighting at the range is shocking though so might get Homer to take a video on the practice ground at the club next week, get my pro to check it and keep it somewhere safe for future reference

Natural habits are extremely hard to fight - and there's a school of thought that suggests that you shouldn't fight them!

My original trainer could (and probably still can!) sort out my swing from his understanding of my particular characteristics. It hasn't really changed much and the faults/solutions are pretty predictable.

Take heart in the fact that you are actually consistent - if somewhat mis-directed. To me, the key is being able to recognise when you are getting too flat and know how tom combat it.

i've been there done that and with the same fault,

i always film my swing now at the range, feel vs real is so different for me i need to see my swing to check im doing the right thing, feeling im doing the right thing is just not enough

when you go out on the course it's really easy to slip back into old habits without realising it

im going through a swing change at the moment, it goes like this...
start range session swing looking bad,
during the range session fix it,
at the end of the range session swing looking good,
go out on course for a few rounds,
back to the range swing looking bad again
rinse and repeat, one day i'll ingrain my new swing, i hope....

Feel your pain Hawkeye. I had something similar yesterday.

My pro has changed my set-up to something pretty much new from scratch.

The one thing I've always struggled with is my right hand on my grip rotating under the shaft. I've had no issue lately but yesterday I caught a sight at address and, although not under the shaft, it wasn't quite right.

The swing plane is still a work in progress, but looking positive.

Good advise from Fundy about videoing your swing too. Once my pro is happy I'm doing it right, I plan on doing something similar

Another thumbs up for videoing, I vid a few of my swings every time at the range. Review while I am there and at home, and then often show my pro pre lesson also. Very helpful indeed. I can give two thumbs up to the swingprofile app. Has light balance adjustment for dark ranges!
