The comp at our place this coming Sunday is an 'Old Fashioned Bogey', playing in pairs of our choosing. Can someone explain the format? How does it differ from Stableford scoring? Or doesn't it?

Cheers

A bogey is matchplay against the course, the course will be as previously mentioned your most consistent performer nett par every hole all round.
A nett birdie or better gets you a +
A nett par is 0
And a nett bogey or above is a -
Score of around +4 in singles to
Win.

Just to be slightly pedantic.....

It's a Strokplay comp. Though it's still a match against the course.

Strokeplay Rules apply.

In any hole you either in, Halve, or Lose the hole by scoring better, equal to or poorer than nett Par resp. If you lose, or are going to lose, then you don't need to hole out.

Off full handicap, Bogey comps can be qualifying. There is a formula to convert score to the nett differential for handicap adjustments.

A couple of tactical considerations: Birdies and Pars on shot holes ount the same, so no need to be aggressive. Putting for a half is the same as in Matchplay - so don't 'take the 1 Stableford point'.

Enjoy it. It's frightening how consistent the course is!:D

A really good format explained well by the posters above. We had one off 3/4 handicap and it was torture. The next was off 7/8 and seemed much fairer, I came 2nd on count back with +5.

Good point from Foxholer in regards to when to be aggressive.

Played my first old fashioned bogey today in a pairs comp. played really well and finished with +9, joint leaders in the club house. Very frustrating to miss a 6ft putt on the last for another +. Never mind, thoroughly enjoyed the format and played with some great blokes. Spot on.
