Afternoon all, don't post often but thought I would share a tale about last nights round.
Playing in a medal last night was hitting the ball sweetly, bogey here, birdie there. All the practice seemed to be paying off and the score was looking good.
Standing on the 15th tee (385 yd Par 4) at 1 over, been driving well so thought that seeing as the pin was on the right that I would hit my drive to the left half of the fairway (severe delusions of competency there :(). Managed 2 pars and a birdie in the last 3 and finished with a 74 less 7, end up with a 0.8 cut (stableford adjustment).
Moral for me was that I was thinking of a 70 halfway up the 14th and the 8 happened really quickly, showed me that each shot is a separate action and you can't take this game for granted as it can always bite you when least expected. I was hitting the ball well but the concentration required for keeping a good score going was quite intense, hats off to the pros who manage this round in round out. I will be paying more attention to the mental side of the game from now on!!

I'm with you on this. If I get too far ahead of myself (net par from here for xx) then I ca guarantee over the next few holes I'll have a real bad hole out of nowhere. I'm trying to work hard on my mental side too and have asked players notto tell me my score when they are marking my card now so I don't try and focus on what I have/need to do

It's grim. Never over 'till it's over.

I made it to the 17th the other day 8 over, needed two bogeys for a -2 nett.

I hit a quite nice shot, but it caught a branch on an overhanging tree and landed at the base. Had to chip out left handed, lob it over the lake and 2 putt for a double-bogey. Ran out of "course" at the 18th, drove it straight onto the course entrance road bounced massively into the lake at 210 off the tee. Dropped, went through the back, another double. 8 shots spent on 16 holes, 4 on 2 holes!!!
