I've started playing golf with a very good player from the north of England. The subject of holes in one came up and he said that he'd had six ''ones'' but said that two didn't really count as they were in friendly rounds.
As far as I'm concerned they all count? (BTW this guy isn't a bullshitter. He's modest and can really play)

Friendly rounds or not.....it's the fact you've done it, surely?

As a teenager, I stayed up until the small hours trying to clear the table on my 10 red ball 8x4 foot snooker table.

I did it once and then a good few times more. Never cleared up on a full size.....but I know I did it at home and managed to achieve a life-long ambition.

If I had a hole in one off the yellow tees, you'd find me on here celebrating....regardless.

I suppose if you've had six (!) and are a good player, but modest, it's understandable that the unofficial ones wouldn't be held in the memory in the same way.

ha ha its not recorded unless in a comp but you can guarantee if anyone in the club hears about one in a friendly they'll all want a drink!

If my near misses had gone in I would have about 30 now! ;)

Try telling Rab Munro that friendly 'ones' don't count. We were 15 when we jumped on Colville Park and the jammy wee ginger b@$*&%d hole his tee shot on the par 3 10th one summer evening. We still tell him it didn't count as due to him being the milky bar kid who couldn't hit the green from the 'mens' tees had to go off the WUMINS tees. He just smiles contentedly.
