I have been doing a bit of research on the Net concerning getting an official handicap when you're not a member of a club. I have found a few sites that allow you to do this , including keeping all your stats up-to-date.

I was wondering if anyone on here has used or is using these sites and how useful they've found them ?

Elite golf solutions is the one i've been looking at .

Any advice/info/tips would be welcome.

regards

I don't know much about these systems. It all seems a bit odd to me, you could do your own h'cap, and adjust it yourself if you are honest enough. BUT a lot will depend on what you want to achieve.

I've been playing golf on and off for 16 years and have not carried a certificate for nearly all that time. I've played all over the UK and never been asked. I've visited the odd course with a forged one but never shown it.

If you want to go abroad, I'd say use one of these systems.
It's not a lot of money, so if it makes you feel good, or your really think you need it - go for it. Looks simple enough. If I organised a big day out and someone turned up with an "unofficial" cert' (because the only trustworthy cards are from a club i.m.o.) I'd be fairly sceptical.....so it may not fix your problem totally. I think you would have a tough time entering a club "open" tournament.

I'm sounding rather negative.....if these things do what they say on tin, maybe it's a good investment......I'd spend such a small amount if my luck at turning up and never being asked started to run out. Somehow, if you turn up and confidently say you are off single figures, no-one bats an eyelid......then again, I don't go to the st andrews and wentworths of this world.

Problem is as you enter your own info it is open to abuse but then if you don't enter competitions who cares. In fact when i have played with other members they don't take it too seriously and are normally only interested in their own scores. I haven't looked at getting the certificate on scoretracker there may be a cost but at least it shows me my improvement.

Just occured to me how often do people update their handicaps anyway. I have imporved from 28 to 22 according to scoretracker over three months, have been playing four times a week. If i hadn't submitted those cards i would still be handicap 28. Personally i am not convinced by this as i think my course is probably a little easier than others and quite short.
