Evening all,
Just a quick question, I love match play when playing as a two or as pairs, but get a bit bored when in a three ball.. what other games are there apart from skins and stableford ?

We play the 6 point game, which is good sport.

Each hole has 6 points to be played for. 4 if you win outright, with 2 for outright second or 1 each for tied. 3 each for two best if 2way tie, or 2 points each if 3way tie.

Hmmm interesting.. thanks for the reply, playing early tomorrow so might have to give that try.. as long as the other are game.

All based on net scores, and we play no gimmees, as when it gets to the last few holes, some people can get "creative" with gimmees, if it suits them.

When we play this you deduct the lowest score from everyone's score after each hole, keeps the numbers down. Personally, I prefer to play matchplay in a three ball. You have two matches going so if you're losing in one often they other match is close & you have an incentive to keep trying. You can often play a whole round of chairman without anyone winning a point.

That's a new one on me (or at least new name) - could you explain please?

S

Chairman:

You can play this with 2 or 4 players, but 3 is best. 4 players makes it very hard to score at all.

Lowest player plays off scratch. Others play off a fraction of the difference - we usually use 1/2, but you could use 3/4 if you prefer but 3/4 is quite a lot when you are competing against more than one player.

To 'get into the Chair' you have to win a hole. Once you are the Chairman, or 'in the Chair' you can now score points. You score a point by winning a hole whilst in the Chair. To stay in the Chair you have to at least tie the hole with the best of the other players (using shots on the stroke index holes as usual). If one other player beats your score, then he takes over the Chair. If more than one player beats you, but they have the same score, then the Chair is now empty again and nobody can score until the Chair is filled once more. The best score at the end of the stipulated number of holes wins. If two players have the same score, then all tie, which leads to some interesting tactics.....

There is some quite unusual strategy in this game, as you can deliberately miss a putt to let someone into the Chair on the penultimate hole for instance, so that they have a chance to make a point there and tie the match. Some people like to play this way, and others hate it - you have to decide which way you like to play. This can also happen with 2 holes to play, and by letting someone get into the Chair, they might have a chance of winning both of the last holes and winning outright themselves.

We sarcastically call the game 'Friendly Chairman' when these tactics are brought into play!

Enjoy!

Let me know if I have not made the game clear.

Maybe it's me being a bit slow thinking on a Monday, but I don't get that. If you have scored correctly on each hole, the total points should be 54 after 9 holes and 108 after 18 so you can check if a mistake has been made. How does checking work with your deduction method? I'm a little confused.

My father in law taught me the 6point game, he called it barracuda. It's a good game.
Personally I find the deduction method of scoring annoying, easier just to add it all up.

It's just that's the way I've always played it. The total should always be divisible by 6 and the losing player should always have nil. In an even match it keeps the numbers down.

You've lost me again. After first hole, player A gets 4 points and B and C get 1 each. Deduct, which leaves A on 3 and B and C on 0. 3 is not exactly divisible by 6.
