Hi guys

I was discussing the fact that I need to put three cards in to get my new club handicap and they must be signed off by a member.

The problem is the person who introduced me to the club is unable to play at the moment due to an operation and is unable to play - upon discussing this with another member I was told that you could enter the competitions and get your handicap over the first three rounds but you could not win the competition.

Is this correct?

Thanks Matt

yep, i had to do the same. positive is they didnt have me pay to play the comp becasue i wasnt competing for the prizes...

Do members usually have to pay to play in comps?

I've only just joined a club so I didn't know this.

How much is it to enter typically?

€8 in our place & €2 for the twos club .. yea i think it a given in most places ,

my club is £3.50 plus £2 for 2s. They would let me enter the 2s while not having a handicap. Then again why wouldnt they!! im hardly a threat lol...

I wanted to get a new handicap asap so i could start playing a few comps again before the winter comes.I have recently joined the same club as full_throttle,and besides him, knew nobody else who could mark a handicap card for me.
The club secretary suggested i play in last weeks stableford comp, and enter the card for handicap purpose's.I was allowed entry into the comp, but had to play off scratch.

Couldn't you have just transferred your old h/cap to your new club?

I haven't played for over 3 years Bob,my last handicap would have lapsed in 2009.

Oic.
Don't forget to tell your new h/cap sec you used to be Cat I

No probs there mate,i had a good chat with the club secretary when i joined,as with all new members without a valid handicap,i had to give details of my golfing history before being accepted for membership.
I don't think my recent standard of play is anything for a Cat1 golfer to worry about :D
I was more concerned that if i had a really bad round last Saturday, they may have thought i was trying to con them, thankfully i managed to keep it almost respectable (26 points, playing off scratch).I'm not expecting to get much more than 7,whatever kind of scorecards i put in for handicap,so i don't think i'll be winning anything for the foreseeable future.

Sure, it's exactly what I would expect, though it might vary from club to club. My first 3 cards were all submitted in normal weekend comps. You can't win the comp as you don't have a handicap.... :D :D
You could potentially play in a social game(s) with someone prepared to mark your card.
Either is acceptable.

At mine, one of the cards needs to be done by a committee member.

I played with the h'cap secretary, and had a 14 over CSS.

The bar steward put me off 11.5, despite 14 over being my best score of the 3. :D :D

He and I don't talk. He then didn't put me up for a year despite never playing to 11.5. I had a little cheer to myself after he got voted out of the position.
