Had a round with one of the scratch team, guy is in his late 50's, and is pin point accurate from 150 yards in. I have had a chat with him when I have been practicing but never had a round with him. It was really interesting, he had spent a season mapping the greens, he knew all the breaks and where the straight putts were. He had sight lines that were off the surrounding landscape. It was phenomenal, the putts were just rolling as predicted and dropping in "plop" another birdie etc... I loved it!
At the moment my putting is in pretty good form, but my driving is well streaky, but I have managed to work out when I don't require my driver, so I have minimised its negative affect. I usually have strategies for holes depending on pin positions and roughly know putting breaks but this was another level ...

Once went on a golf tour and the first course we visited had the greens by the clubhouse dressed when we arrived. Someone commented that they hoped they weren't all like that, and someone else responded "They were when I walked the course at 6 o'clock this morning" Much coffee was spluttered out. After the round he was the first to go, was early to bed and when he came out the following morning at 5.30 found his car firmly boxed in. Didn't get the message that the tour was supposed to be a bit more sociable and went door knocking to try and get out, which met with predictable responses. It was his first and last appearance.

SO he was bullied because he was competitive? Nice. Bet the guys who boxed him in felt like big men.

I think once one has the ability to hit Green In Regulation all the time, it would be wise to learn which way the green slopes run as to try and land it in the best place to either run towards the hole or leave a flattish putt.

Sound a nice bunch of chaps that lot.

That is my present strategy, I try to leave myself with an uphill putt or within 15ft (hence my questioning aim point ). I know for a fact that putts over 30ft are not my strong point, so I have worked on my iron play and distances, with all the tech available now it's a lot easier than 15 years ago and less manual.

I think if anyone was that good they might as well just put it by the pin everytime :) .

you can't as the ball doesn't stick on a good green (apparently) ... But it's quite easy to use the geography to shorten your putts, or you can play percentage golf and bang it in the middle of the green.
