Oakmont and an 8 capper

interestingly enough one of the guys at my club has played there a few times and he said he didn't break 100 and nor did his mate. both cat1

Anyone who says its not as tough as advertised has not played somewhere where basically every 4 foot putt will have at least a foot of break on it. That is on top of just the plain speed.

14.5 is so far removed from what over here might be considered club champs ridiculously fast stupid greens (maybe 11-11.5) its not even funny

I cant wait, it will be such a good watch, seeing them battle to keep it tight and to see how they approach it.

Love watching golf like this, it's such a refreshing change from the norm.

Rose and G-Mac could do quite well here this week!

What does he mean 99 and that does include putts inside 3 feet?

WHAT?

Did he simply give himself 3 footers?

I do not know what he actually scored?!

I think i would do relatively ok round there as i simply would not hit any woods of the tee

Not only would we all not break 110 IMO but if you HAD to putt out, I think it would be the longest round you'll experience but a round NEVER to forget.

3ft gimmees when it is running 14.5 on the stimpmeter. I wouldn't give 3ft gimmees on any surface but 1ft putts at that speed are a test never mind 3ft. Shame on that man. If you are going to the bother of showing the difficulty of the course then do it properly.

Obviously towards US Open week the difficulty will be ramped up a lot, but how about the rest of the year? If it's 10 shots harder than any other course in the area, wouldn't Oakmont members mop up any Trilby Tour type competitions due to their over-inflated handicap?

Not if SSS ( or the rating/slope equivalent) was 85 !

Using the US handicap system they'd play off a lower handicap at an easier course

I reckon I would comfortably be off 7.5-8.5 in the US system, just the way it works

Yeah, generally their handicaps seem to be a couple of shots lower than people of similar ability with congu handicaps.

So if you're a 10, agree you might be around the 8 mark with usga.
