definitely requiring a pair now and need to get prescription ones, seems like Uncle Tom Cobley and all sell Oakleys online.

Who have you used that are cost effective and provide an excellent service?

If you're going for prescription lenses, maybe a local opticians would be best. I was in the same boat last year and had an eye test and fitting 'consultation' at the opticians where they priced up a pair of Flak Jacket XLJs with G30 prescription lenses for £270. Expensive but the service was good and very helpful trying them on in store etc. Only problem was I then got engaged which put the kibosh on buying the shades!

(As an aside, if you go for the G30 golf lenses, don't get the regular flak jacket model, as when you address the ball, your eyes can see under the lenses)

Got a pair awhile back from a surf shop of all places, guy was good enough at the time to show all the pairs and bring out the books etc were the opticians you think it was solid gold bars behind that glass cabinet so drove the extra 40miles just to give my money to the surf shop, turned out to be the right decision as the guy was good enough to put in another case with the glasses aswell.

Might have got the cheaper online but thinking back on it now it was nice giving my money to a local trader for a change lol with great customer service.

Would you not consider contact lenses and just a non prescription pair of Oakleys. Would work out a lot cheaper. That's what I do and have no problems

I do this too. It gives a much wider choice of sunglasses, and means that if your prescription changes, you don't need to get new lenses. I went with Oakley Fast Jacket XL, and they are superb (and expensive).

thats a great idea, except I tried contact lenses and after pummeling my eyes trying to get the buggers in for 15 minutes I looked like I'd been on the booze for 3 days straight!

Strange when was that as contact lense quality has moved on a lot. I can put both mine in and take them out in under a minute without even needing a mirror so they are really easy to use. There are loads of different types available some disposable, some which you put in solution which las around a month etc have you been to see an optician about them recently as the choice of packages available is huge. I got mine from Boots/D&A and never have the slightest bit of trouble

it was last year from Boots Opticians, they 'instructed me' in how to put it in and out oooeerr but you have to pull so much eye skin and you cant see it clearly........as you need glasses:rolleyes: it made it very awkward, then it would go in and fold on itself:eek: when she said it could actually go right under my eye and under the eyeball I thought enoughs enough.
They need to invent a small hand held machine that does it cleanly and hygenically

When I first wore lenses I got them from D&A which later became Boots. I am as blind as a bat without glasses by the way. Method I use is get the lense on a finger on your Right hand and slightly pull down your bottom eyelid, no need to touch the top one and just gently touch the lense onto your eye and it will immediatly grip on and job done and repeat for the other eye. Move really close to a mirror when doing this and you should have no problem. With a bit of practice you can do this without a mirror, once I had been doing it for a while I can get them both in and out without a mirror in under a minute. Taking them out is equally simple just pull one eyelid down slightly and pinch the lense with 2 fingers on your right hand and it comes out instantly. Sounds like you may have been shown a incorrect or long winded way of doing it to me. Even if they do fold over you can easily get them out no need for them to scaremonger like that

Depends what type they are. If they have been sat in the cleaning solution during the time as well I would have though you may be o.k. The Opticians tell us to use them by certain dates but I am sure this is so we buy more of them from them. Just make sure that the lense is still nice and flexible as some can dry out if not used for a long time, you will no if it has or not as soon as you pick it up it will be firm and not soft if this is the case then get rid immediatly, I had a pair that went this way and threw them out as it will do your eye no good. Best of luck. They are worth perservering with. Too many people are put off by them because the thought of putting something in your eye makes people worried/scared but once you get used to them they are a doddle trust me:thup:
