Me and 3 other forummers are playing at Turnberry tomorrow, in the "from the tips" comp.

You are playing off the pro tees, and all the pins are going to be in the same position as on the final day of the last open they held. 2009?

So, as a total how do you think we'll do?

Me (6), Stu C (16), Birchy (12) and the "lion of Alwoodley" - duffers (16), I think are the handicaps. The weather looks benign with 12-14 degrees sun, and only 6 mph winds.
I still think it will be tough though.

I reckon an aggregate total of 110 stableford points , what do you think? A lot higher, or miles lower......:p

i would imagine with it only being June and Scotland has not had much growing weather yet, the rough will not be a penal or greens firm, so guessing the scoring would be OK

im going for a combined total of 106, its going to eat you up and tear you a new one :)

Sounds like a great day guys, make sure you enjoy yourselves.

I think a lot will depend on how punishing the rough is. I doubt it'll be too bad at this time of the year so you should be OK.

If my memory serves me right I don't think the fairways are too narrow at Turnberry so a few 'wayward ones' should mean you won't be severely punished.

I think you're about right with the aggregate but I'd go for slightly higher, around the 120-125 mark.

Have a great day.........not jealous at all

110 would be quite good playing round there, so I'll give £10 to H4H if you beat 110

Very kind, Ian.

What do you think "par" is for our merry gang though, I don't know if they have big carries to the fairways at Turnberry. I think if this was at Birkdale it would be a different beast, as some have over 200 yard carries I believe from the pro tees.

LB - 85
Stu - 98
Birchy - 95
Duffers - 93

111pts

Have they started the work to change the course yet?

Not till September, Gaz.

Thanks all, if I get 30 points will be happy, 32 "made up", not even contemplating playing to handicap. I think 28 is about right, less than 25 I'll be disappointed.

Mahan and Poulter both shot 79 in 2009, Larrazzabal shot 81, Goydos shot 82 on Sunday, and the guy that finished last in The Open shot an 84, so get anywhere near that and you'll have done pretty well! Good luck chaps, enjoy :-)

I played Royal Birkdale off the tips in a fair breeze a few weeks ago, and managed 26 points with a fair few blobs (I was off 17 at the time)! Started out really well +2 gross through 5 and then tried to overpower it so stay patient is my tip! To be fair I played from the whites at 6,900ish not the championship tees so I can only imagine the challenge you've got! Will be a fantastic day hope you all enjoy it!

Having had two outings with Dufferman on our home course in the last month, I doubt he will break 100.

Anything under 100 from Dman will go from me to H4H. Anything over 100 goes from him to H4H.... Fair challenge?

I played Royal St Georges from the tips in the middle of winter, 7000 yards! I was off 6 and played well to shoot 85 so that might give you a benchmark.

Enjoy, Turnberry is a great course

I reckon it depends how long you stayed in the curry house....

can see duffers getting the most points, kids been playing well and the amount of times he wins he obviously hates parting with cash!

Have a goodun
