Got an email today from Turnberry detailing a couple of upcoming tournaments and this one really took my eye.

Unfortunately cant do it this year but I am going to enquire as to whether this is going to be an annual event as it sounds like a great days golf and would love to play the course set up like that.

Anyone else fancy a forum meet next year at Turnberry

Doesn't sound like fun to me., although I' d love to play the course. Playing from so far back you're going to be hitting 3 wood into greens designed to be hit with a 6 iron or suchlike. When I play a "proper" golf course I like to play off the tees that will give me the right shot to the green if I hit a good drive. To be flogging away & not reaching any of the par fours would spoil it for me.

It's a one off experience and I personally would love the challenge. Appreciated that it's wouldn't be everyone's idea of fun but how often are you going to get a chance to play a major championship course in major championship conditions?

If nothing else it would certainly hammer home just how good the pros are when they are knocking it round these tracks in the 60s and give ourselves some sense of realism about our own game :smirk:

Crikey id love to give that a bash .... maybe after concra beats us all up we will plan this for next year ha

We played it off the whites a couple of years ago, and on a couple of holes I reckon I could have hit a driver between the Championship tees and the whites!

Anyone who breaks 90 will clean up!

In other words Yes I'm very tempted!

if its dry and warm without a gale the holes arent as long as you might think- remember there is a greater amount of run with a dry links.

I played Royal Troon from the 'Open' tees and 2 par 5's were a drive and an iron it was that firm.

I've played Turnberry many times but only from the whites, yes the champs on some holes are much further back which focuses the mind but you wont be playing 3 woods into 'normal' par 4's unless theres a really strong wind.

Might enter that myself

That does sound like a proper day out. Tempted, but will need to convince the missus!
