I took up smiffys offer of playing in seniors at Manning's heath GC today . I turned up nice and early as I was second group out .getting to the first tee and introducing myself to my playing partners we waited for the first group to clear the way and I then teed off .a great drive right down the middle luvverly jubberly. My pp tee off and we are on our way.well only about thirty yards of on our way . I slipped on a railway sleeper that lined the concrete path and my knee just exploded ,well that's what it felt like.I spent the whole day in hospital being xrayed and scanned to be told that I have torn my patella ligaments and will probably be off work for up to six weeks .
Not what I had in mind for today.
And it hurt like hell.

Terrible news. How are they treating that and what's the long term prognosis. I hope you get fit again soon

No I didn't get my ball back lol.
As for treatment I am splinted up. I have got to go back to the hospital tomorrow to the fracture clinic and soft tissue centre for them to check if I need the knife.
Not looking forward to that .

Where there's a blame, there's a claim. £££ :D

Ouch I feel your pain them railway sleepers are worse the ice when they are wet. Hopefully you recover fully and quick too. Take it easy.

Had the hospital phone this morning with the results of my ultra scan ,apparently I have a tear in my patella ligaments and will be in a splint for at least a fortnight. Good news really as had it been torn off completely I would have needed surgery.

Our CEO snapped his Patella whilst playing at the London Club, he had to have surgery, but after some recuperation he is back golfing.

I hope you recover soon, and are back on the course without further injury.

Sounds sore! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I remember once playing the 16th at a course and really going for the drive off the tee and ended up slipping a muscle, the pain their was excruciating so I understand how you must feel for an injury which probably hurt x10 more!

We had all our sleeper steps removed because of accidents and the possible claims, get well soon

It is amazing how many clubs (and others) use old sleepers as bridges etc; forgetting that the preservative is primarily oil based which just needs a bit of water as a lubricant.

They're deadly - just what's needed where people are walking and to make matters worse they are often on the only route!

Thanks for the support chaps ,much appreciated. Don't think I will be swinging a club for a few weeks now .the putting might improve a bit though.
Currently laying on the settee with the proverbial bag of frozen peas as an ice pack to try and reduce the swelling.
Smiffy you will be hearing from my solicitors forthwith. Lol.:p
