With This.. Well actually I think its way off the Mark
Sorry for the Link to a Rival Mag, Remove if Necessary..

http://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/cours...-course-guide/top-10-golf-courses--lancashire

Its a Lancashire Top 10 and for once it rightly doesn't have
the South Southport Courses Skewing the list.
(I believe Hesketh has a PR postcode so gets in)

The list is

1- Royal Lytham
2-Fairhaven
3- SAOL
4- Pleasington
5- Clitheroe
6- Ormskirk
7- Hesketh
8 - Bolton Old Links
9 - Manchester Golf Club.
10- Fleetwood.

I think Theres been a lack of research here with at least
A couple of very good courses left out.

What do those with local Knowledge think?

Don't really know what falls in lancashire!!

Amazed Fleetwood is in ahead of Preston, Manchester should be higher imo.

Although I've probably not played enough of the courses in and around Manchester to know really.

What others would you have in?

I'd need to have a bit of a think about it Tbh.

Preston has got to be in there, I haven't played it but I've heard Lancaster is superb.
I think the top three is right but the rest is way off.
I'd put Manchester 4th For Starters.

Heard the same about Lancaster but haven't played it yet, fancy a trip up there this year.

Agree with a Manchester being too low, love that place. Not really sure how Fleetwood has ended up in there TBH...... were they just trying to wind Danny up

Bolton GC should probably be in?

I think I'd have to have a top 9 as from what I've heard Lancaster Has got to be slotted in there somewhere.

Id be interested to know off those that've played Lancaster where they would place it.

Id Go with..

1- RL
2- Fairhaven
3- Saol
4- Manchester
5- Hesketh
6- Pleasington
7- Ormskirk
8- Preston
9 - Bolton Old Links

Carrying on..

11- Clitheroe
12- Fleetwood
13- Bolton GC
14 - Chorley
15- Wilpshire

I'm sure some will think some of these Placings are way off the mark too :)

Not played Ormskirk or Clitheroe, not sure I'd have Fleetwood ahead of Bolton or Chorley TBH........

I'd imagine Lancaster would be pretty high up as you say.

Maybe my eyesight is failing, or it isn't perceived as good, but where's Royal Birkdale in the list? Its ahead of most of those,

Isn't in Lancashire...... would easily be top of the pile if it was.

Hesketh is the only one of the Southport coast courses that is iirc.

I'm not that hot on what's in and out of Lancs though, only lived here 15 years......

If they're saying if its in a metropolitan borough its not in Lancashire, are Manchester and Bolton not in Lancs?

Im not 100% on this but I think The county boundary runs through Southport
with the north part/ Churchtown Area (Where Hesketh lies) Falling within Lancs.

To be fair Bri your right, Bolton Mcr even Wigan are now Greater Manchester but used to be Lancs.

I'm Also presuming that the old Lancs border used to run right through the North Side of Liverpool due to the Naming of West Lancs Golf Club?.

I've not played Lancaster for close on 20 years. It must have improved quite a bit. I'd have had it as average.

Not played Royal Lytham or Ormskirk yet but def playing RL this year and possibly Ormskirk as well.

I would put Manchester, Preston and Lancaster above Clitheroe, Ciitheroe is nice enough and I played it a lot, but it doesn't strike me as better than those 3

Fleetwood & Wilpshire I have only played in winter so while I wouldn't disagree with comments I cant confirm my opinion on them.

My top 10 in Lancs would be

Royal Lytham
SAOL
Hesketh
Fairhaven
Pleasington
Manchester
Preston
Lancaster
Clitheroe
Bolton Old Links

The old Lancs border ran along the Mersey so Liverpool, Widnes and half of Warrington were in Lancashire.

On the assumption Formby , Birkdale, Hillside and S&A are not considered in the rankings......

Id have Manchester and Hesketh above Ormskirk and Clitheroe. Clitheroe is good, BUT , I dont think it should be held in such high acclaim as it is.

Can't say as haven't played all of them.

The list is

1- Royal Lytham
2-Fairhaven
3- SAOL - STILL Not played
4- Pleasington
5- Clitheroe - Not played
6- Ormskirk - Not played
7- Hesketh - Not played
8 - Bolton Old Links - Not played
9 - Manchester Golf Club.
10- Fleetwood - Not played
