With the state of our course getting worse every year since I have been there I have decided to hand my notice in a tough decision with my dad been chairman, but it's really got to me how the course has got over time, for example today the green keeper has been out this morning getting paid supposedly to swish the greens and rake all bunkers and move tee pots I counted 3 greens he didn't swish and I bet over 50% of bunkers were not raked, in my job if I repeatedly didn't do my job properly I would get sacked but they seem to get away with it , so I have let my money talk got me £700 saved for next year shame rest of courses near enough to me want a joining fee which I won't pay

There are loads of good courses in Leeds, so you shouldn't need to be out for long. I am sure you will find somewhere that doesn't want a joining fee, if that is a sticking point.

Your dad doesn't pay your fees. Your money, your choice. Just don't embarrass him with the content of your resignation letter.

Agreed, surely as you're just not renewing you just need to tell the Secretary and wander away, no big resignation letter needed

Doesn’t really matter who’s chairman, just say that you’re not renewing, if queried then say you’re "not enjoying your golf as much as you should"

If they’re genuinely interested they’ll ask why not and you can explain about inconsistencies in the bunkers/greens which stops you enjoying the game as much

This may or may not lead to change taking place but either way you’ve left on good terms and no need to sound like you’ve gone off in a huff because of xyz or so & so isn’t doing their job

Have the greenkeeping staff been affected by cuts in spending? If the greenkeeper is expected to do the same work with fewer resources then it's not all his fault if it not everything gets done.

I am putting mine on hold for next year , just social membership for a year , thats my thinking at the moment

Definitely worth stating why you are leaving, irrespective of who is involved. But I'd suggest that you stick to stating your opinion that it has gone downhill rather than speculating as to why it has.
