With a new job, travel, poor weather and lack of enthusiasm, I have not hit a golf ball for over 6 weeks. Think I am starting to miss it.

I reckon its come from playing so poorly of late, reckon i might not play now until the new year but get a block of lessons and do some practice, somehow i have slipped back into some bad habits. After getting down to 15, and up to 16 getting closer to 17 and have not looked like hitting handicap at my own course, but one glimmer of light came at a corp day when i shot 39 points. So i know i can do it!

Anyway, self indulgent thread over, how long have you gone without golf without consciously "quitting"?

Since losing my membership I have gone through a handful of periods off golf.

I never lost the bug, just could not fit it into my life.

I found it is far better to play par 3 courses and just go to the range if you are not playing often, you get all the fun and no pressure to "Post a score".

I even ended up shooting a few 27s and even a 26!

I also advocate lessons while you are not playing, should give you a chance to actually work on things rather than rush back to the course and forget everything. Practice at home, on the carpet etc. Just get the buzz from the little things and help your golf along the way (for when you return).

I haven't played since Thursday and I'm chomping at the bit. But before that I think the longest of the top of my head is about 5 weeks due to our home being flooded at the beginning of the year. And there was not one day where I didn't think about playing. You may find with the lay off you come back even better, once you've had a few lessons though :)

Did about 4 months last year and 3 months this summer. Both through the same injury.. Just been laid up again by the same injury after an incident at work. Looks like another 2-3 months following an operation in December.. Not at my happiest point at the moment..

not far off yourself Scott, had 1 round a few weeks back and it was shambolic. Was going to play this week as off work and enter comp tomoz but just got snowed under with other stuff.

Off away again next month with work so have knocked golf on the head until next year. No point going up the range sporadically or grabbing 18 with no practice.

I dont want to give up but finding it hard to fit in the time required.... Hopefully next year will be kinder to me :)

Good afternoon. Try 2 years. Went from 18 to 12.4 than had to take a break to complete the knowledge of London. at the moment I cant even break 30 playing off 18!

Get yourself down the club about 7.30 tomorrow then. Mind you after my masterclass today (22 points) you might be looking for a new winter fourball partner

Haha well I would say oh dear but you may want to trade me in after I scored 16 points off the yellows. So embarrassed but I was playing off a 7 handicap in the greedy roll up. I scored 39 the week before too. Why are you down the club at 7.30.

I disagree, I do this and I find it fun.

I have learnt you can practice with a few weeks (or more) break as long as you do a few drills at home. I am sure I am getting better even though I only go to the range infrequently.

Just go and get some enjoyment from hitting balls rather than posting a score.
