Do you think Jordan gets fed up reading articles or hearing commentators tell us he's not as good a ball striker as Rory or as athletic as DJ etc or is he just happy to keep beating all these "better" players?

i bet he doesn't read the articles. he just looks at his list of wins

Seve wasn't as good a ball striker as Sandy Lyle but he won way more. Seve had it between the ears and a winning mentality.

The attitude and ability to play within yourself and play to your strengths is what counts. Spieth is a master of that.

I suspect it is mildly irritating to him but at the end of the day as long as he keeps looking at the trophies in the cabinet he will allow himself a little self satisfied smile. As he should.

To be fair, I did hear a number of commentators state that he is the best putter in the world, a title that has been thrown his way before particularly during his golden year. You are unlikely to be the best at every aspect of golf but if people are saying that he is the best at one key aspect then that is pretty good.

The one that would irritate is when people say "when everyone is on their A game then Rory or Dustin win". I don't think you can ignore Speith in that list, particularly when Rory has not won a major for a few years now and Dustin only has 1 to Jordan's 3.

To me that is damning with feint praise a bit as true champions can also grind it out when they need to. It's all well and good being the best when everything is going right, but if that is once in a blue moon then what's the point? You'll just end up with a career in which you should have won more based on the talent you clearly had.

I don't believe he would give a blind toss what people say as long as he keeps winning. I know I wouldn't, if I was him I'd just laugh it up.

Totally agree!

I'd really love to see JS and RM playing in the final group on Sunday of a major when they were both on form. Hope it happens but it's Rory that needs to up his game first.

People get seduced by Rory's perfect swing and balance. They are overawed by dustins raw power and and towering shots.

To say Jordan is a poor ball striker is false. I saw a whole heap of stats yesterday that prove he is right up there at distance control. He was significantly higher up in those stats than he was in putting would you believe.

People get seduced by power but that's not all there is to it. You must be able to control your shots too. Rory looks great when he's pinged another 4 iron into 15 feet on a par 5 twice a round from the middle of the fairway.

I absolutely detest the "if both were on their a game line". Complete nonsense. pretty much all the top guys can shoot 7,8 9 under when on top form so the argument is just plain silly.

Would you rather win playing like Rory or win playing like Speith?

Exactly

.... But In the grand scheme of things there are no pictures on a scorecard.

I read 'every shot counts' which is the principles behind strokes gained. The stats in the book show that Rory can't putt well. Doesn't matter if your swing is perfect and you can smash it 350 yards, if you can't putt the ball in the hole!

But I agree, it would be great to see JS & RM battling it out for a major.

Good thread

And these are really good points. Factual too

yep...

I've never seen a column on a scorecard for "quality of strike."

The fact that Spieth is the first to match "God"'sfeat of winning 3 Majors before the age of 24 says all to me!

I think Jordans answer is:

How many majors does DJ have? Ask me again when he has 3.

How many majors does Mcilroy have? Ask me again when he has a green jacket.

Lets be honest. Comparing those 3 is like comparing apples and oranges. All 3 are different.

Johnson has massive length, Rory has the ball striking, Speith is god on the green.
