If someone new to golf and new to the forum asks a question that has been asked before, cut them some slack and just try and help them.
It costs nothing to be polite

Fresh meat, where...:smirk:

I've not seen any newbies or any of the usual questions they may ask lately?

However, I agree with Uncle Bob

Its getting pretty bad on here tbh, what people checking and correcting spelling and grammar, now you can't ask a question just in case its be asked before.

If you can't add to a thread or or are interested in what is posted keep quiet.

No rule to say you have to comment

I agree with the OP. Quite happy to point new golfers in the right direction. I would advise any new player to aquire a rule book, read it & become familiar with the rules that more commonly need to be referred to. Nobody can be expected to know them all but, if anyone is going to play competitively, they need to know when a rule has likely been broken & how to find the answer in the rule book.

My sentiments exactly. If you open a thread and you have no interest in it because it has either been asked before, or it looks totally pointless then just close the window and move on. You don't have to comment, express an opinion, or put the person down asking it.

I've noticed that there are some forumers that have to comment on just about everything on here. For gods sake find something better to do with your spare time.

Indeed.

Like go play golf....
On the Op, why shouldnt people ask a question previously asked. As the forum expands and gains new members it gains new opinions and points of view which might just enrich a topic..
Also, lets face it, the search facility on here (or pretty much most forums) arent exactly easy or specific when they are used.

Forum responses to certain questions or topics are becoming a bit predictable.

From a Moderator point of view, we are trying to promote the Forum as a place for all golfers and we want to encourage new members
So if you see a newbie getting some stick, please give us a nod either by reporting it or by PM and we can deal with it.

It is impossible to read every thread and every post, so we do rely on YOU to let us know when things arent what they should be

Thanks

From a personal point of view i have found that this forum can sometimes be an intimidating place if you dont play off of single figures, you arent a member at a well known, famous or near famous club and your list of must play courses for the year doesnt include those on the Open rota or used by the European tour. (present or past)

For instance, i listed the Meon Valley as the nicest course i had played a couple of years ago but it was soon dismissively listed as a 'Marriott course.' I questioned this and was soon provided a list of denigrating characteristics. For those of us that dont play at courses featured in GM's Top 100 this can be seen as rather elitist.
