Gutted at this, thick fog here and can't see a thing, was hoping for a display but not meant to be.

Saw them once back in 1998 when I was still in the RN. It was January and we were just inside the arctic circle at the time after a visit to Bodo in Norway. Better than any firework display if you ever get to see them.

I went for a drive into the hills but failed to see anything, part of the sky looked a bit brighter but not coloured.

My new house gets views occasionally but usually too engrossed by the stars! Dark skies areas are worth a visit - there really are a shed load of stars up there and seeing the Milky Way is something else!

Note to others: Dave lives in Widnes, when the towers are glowing you cant even see Runcorn.
I always wake up to the news saying how they were out the previous night. A bit of warning the night before would be nice. Normally we can get to see them over this side but I believe last night was one for the west of the country. Too cloudy up here.
