Northern lights cruise.

yes , we did 10 day round trip Bergen - Kirkenes over the new year 2 years ago , we loved it and did see the northern lights , not a fantastic showing but we did see them , it is a good trip , very relaxing ,good food and accomodation , if you have cruised before it is not like a normal cruise , the ships operate like ferries , delivering and collecting goods , the Norwegians use it to get from one port to another . Some ports you may only be in for 15 minutes ,the time it takes to deal with the cargo in that port , if you go on an excursion there is a good chance of rejoining the ship at another port , at the time of year we went it is dark or twilight 24 hours a day . Generally any ports you visit at night on the way out you will call at during the day on the way back . Norway is stunning although expensive , we have also done summer cruises there but with 24 hour daylight no chance of northern lights . If you want to know more feel free to ask

We did the fjords in Norway from Liverpool it was great Shetlands/ all the fjords were good but it's not sunbathing hol.
its very different in the Norwegian towns but it's very relaxing holiday.
Quite expensive so go back to ship to eat.
Flam railway is brilliant .
we went to look at a old church to find a wedding on , they invited us to have a drink and join in the reception but we never had time.
average age was Fortyish but very enjoyable holiday.
go you will enjoy it.

Sam and I keep looking at going on one of these. We went to Lapland in search of the lights about 3 or 4 years ago, flying over and staying for 3 nights in a remote hotel.
Unfortunately we didn't see them but it was a great experience. Bloody cold though. Coldest it got was when we went on a skidoo trip one night, down a frozen river. Temperature gauge at the petrol station close to our hotel was reading -28 when we returned!!
Came as a bit of a shock when you were sitting in the hotel in t-shirt and jeans and then nipped outside for a quick fag afterwards :o
Would dearly love to see the Northern lights, and one of these 10 day cruises seem to give you the best chance of seeing them so we are very likely to do one within the next few years.
Only thing I would warn you about are the "extras"... they are quite (read very) expensive.
We went on the aforementioned skidoo run, a dog sled experience and also visited a reindeer farm which included a ride around in a sleigh. All three cost and arm and a leg, and the beer wasn't cheap either!

I am flying to Reykjavik in Iceland for a long weekend with the girlfriend at the end of January. The Northern Lights is one of the things are hoping on seeing whilst there. Can't wait to go, also got a few other excursions planned.

Did the same thing with this company a few years back in February. Very cold and really stunning. Not fan of travelling with lots of people, but this was a small enough ship not to be too bad. Went on a dog sleigh ride near Tromso too... Highly recommend

Me and the missus did the same a few years back, never got to see the northern lights unfortunately, but we did go to the Blue Lagoon and I highly recommend that. We also hired a island safari, guides turns up in a modified 4x4, takes you up a glacier, black beach, Gulfoss, Geyser and to some geo thermal places. All very good and some great photo opportunities.

Took this one when we were there
