Afternoon

We are staying in Portrush and playing Ballyliffin (Donegal way) one morning - Can anybody suggest anywhere to play on the way back, looking to make the drive worthwhile.

Thanks

Hi Stew,

There are 2 excellent courses at Ballyliffin, the second has just been revamped by Faldo, so you could spend the whole day there. If not on the way back to Portrush take the A2 from Derry to Limavady and then on to Castlerock which is home to a "hidden gem" of a links course....thoroughly recommended. Another course you might want to try is Portstewart which is just a few miles west of Portrush. Portstewart is a highly ranked links which is extremely challenging and very scenic so if your golf is not at its best at least the views will be rewarding!!
Both these courses have their own website for further details.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi Thor

Thanks, however should have been a bit more specific - We are already playing Castlerock, Royal Portrush and Portstewart with family members.

It was a course directly on the route back we were looking for...Basically to justify the drive there!

We are considering playing both courses there, depends on if we can pick another one it.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Stew. A links course which you may want to consider is The North-West which is a few miles south of Buncrana in Donegal and (only 5/6 miles from Derry) and can be reached by taking the R238 out off Ballyliffen.

Another course on the way back to Portrush is the Radisson Roe Park in Limavady in Northern Ireland which is a pleasant parkland course.

Good to see new members helping each other here!!

My geographical help is to let you know Donegal is in the Republic of Ireland. They will take sterling no problem. The more the merrier!

Enjoy your trip

Thor - Thanks for that, my fault never explained very well!!!! I will post tomorrow all where we are playing when we are over. We are trying to play in a few opens as well as some new courses. We are both over 6 or 7 times a year (Married to sisters from Portrush, ideal for golf) and once a year we like to do a tour. Great to play as many new courses as possible as well as playing with family members around the Portrush/Portstewart area....! Played the Radisson last year, not a bad track just not overly keen about playing courses with hotels like that attached, golf always feels very slow.

Thanks also Farneyman...Thought we would broden our horizons even further and go over the border!
