Off to Normandy tomorrow morning with three ex trench monkeys/ Sherwood foresters. Will be travelling around Normandy in a German Kubelwagon one of the lads has. Anyway we will be staying in arromarches for the week.
Any advice re things to see or little germs around that area. My contribution to said trip part from being resident camera man, is to do a quiz on D-Day Normandy landings. Will be interesting.

cheers boys and girls.

Montreuil-sur-Mer (where Gen Haig had his HQ) is an interesting little town with it's WW1 and Victor Hugo's Les Miserables connections

Bayeux is a must see, the tapestry is amazing.

Our lass said i can take her sewing kit in case it needs a repair. 😁

Oh ah.

Me spell check is crap again.
Getms is gems and part is apart.

We had a great 2 weeks away there the other year.

Lots of D-day museums, cemetaries, beaches etc

William the B**tard's castle (or William the Conqueror to me and you).

Bayeaux tapestry

Honfleur for a lovely little meal out, down by the harbour - a lovely spot.

Deauville for the beach and a nice little town.

Taking the clubs?

Fair to say that after two days the trip has blown me away. Very thought provoking rd trip. Deads mans corner museum is a must.
Pont du Hoc with the craters is unbelievable.

If you're still there, have you done the Arromanches 360 cinema yet? Circular screen which shows some stunning footage with you in the middle.

Still here. Just spoke to the rock monkeys and they told me the same as you have just mentioned. They told me on the first day here it was there but i thought it was for watching star wars or some other film the planks. The ineraction in the dead mans corner is amazing.

Fair to say that the kubelwagon ia the star of the show. Its had loads of attention and photos.
Been to american cemetary today (saving private ryan cemetery) today. 3 guys ( ex soldiers) i was with put down a "lest we forget " flag down in in front of an unknown soldier grave and gave a salute. Loads of filk gathered around. An old american lady gave them a salute back and thanked them. One or two tears inc bro in law. Very moving indeed. Omaha beach needs to be seen to see what **** went off there.

I have stood on the top of Omaha Beach looking down Tashy and wondered the very same thing. It’s hard to imagine how they did what they did.

Last day today. Having an amble around arromanches today. An up to the cinema. Will try an post photos once back. The britiah and canadian beaches looked a little more appealing to land in than that beast of a Beach called omaha. Watched longest day last night and it was surreal seeing the things in a film we had walked amongst.

Couple of photos from the trip
first one is when we are going over Pegasus bridge and one of the lads bumped into someone who he is serving with on the army. Photoshopped it on snap seed?
the second is at a battery we went to

Like the battery one. How was the trip. Was it what you expected?

Dont get me wrong Homer we had the time of our lives. One of the lads who is kinda serving ( works at Welbeck college) has split up from his wife, it has been bitter. He had a big op on his back a couple of months ago and nearly never went. When we had finished the trip, he gave us all a cuddle and said it could not of come at a better time for him, he loved it.
But and its a massive but, it's a roller coaster trip. Laughing and joking one min and the next in a cemetery where thousands have died. The tanks and guns get monotonous but the personal stories of loss and sacrifice did me. The three guys I went with are were 1st Worcester and Sherwood foresters. In the Saving private Ryan cemetery ( American ) the put a flag in front of an unknown solider and saluted. I was stood 6ft in front and it was as personal as it gets. A few yanks thanked them. Flippin Eck ah was I fill in up. On about doin Belgium and France WW1 next year. If I can manage it I will put up a few more photos.
