So, a few years into the Rule for limiting the COR of a Driver to 0.83 and, while browsing a certain auction site, I've found quite a few Non-Conforming ones up for sale.
Now I'll be the first to admit that the current crop of drivers probably out-drive the Hi-COR variants that were outlawed but none of the clubs up for sale mentioned the non-conformity of the head. Whether the COR rule was right or wrong is neither here nor there...

A Newbie to the game, or somone on a tight budget, could buy one of these clubs and be using it in next Month's Medal. They're pretty cheap, a TM XR-05 went for less than 25 quid including postage..

So if you thought a Non-Conforming Driver was being used in a Competition......

Would this worry you?
Would you do something about it?
Would you know what is and what isn't legal?

If you answer No to any of these questions, could you be accused of cherry-picking the Rules you want to follow?

1. Would it worry me? - Not particularly but see 2.
2. Would you do something about it? - If you don't then clearly you are agreeing to waive a rule.
3. No I wouldn't necessarily know what was or wasn't non-conforming (the list is huge) - apart from possibly some of the 'Bang' drivers.

I think its ruling was/is dafter than the current ban were all talking about.

If you were to match up a Titleist 983k hcr against the Taylormade R1 with matching spec , I would put my money that the R1 would go further. Back in the early 2000s much was made of the "trampoline" effect but in reality this was only aiding people who struggled to get the ball airborne thus giving more enjoyment and distance off the tee. What's wrong with that??

Very few tour players actually used the high COR as they could not control the ball flight.

So
1. No it wouldn't worry me
2. I wouldn't say anything and if someone else did, then they clearly have too much time on there hands.
3. I could spot one a mile away as most had markings to look for (cobra had unlimited or Cor figure in red and titleist made the lettering on the brand red, as examples) but as the ban has been round for 7 years now I think its generally forgotten about at club level.

Wouldn't worry me... as
Yes, I'd do something about it - point it out - as soon as I noticed it. To not to so woul require me to DQ myself!
I certainly know quite a few that are/aren't, though by no means all.

As an aside, I certainly believe that Driver technology has moved on far past the benefits that Hi Cor gave.

But Rules is Rules!

I had quiet word while playing with a new member who was using a cobra 440hz hi core . I told him that i had to scrap mine because of the new rules, which btw i think are stupid for club golfers.
But better me having a quiet word than some jobsworth getting him d/q from a comp .

To be honest i don't take a blind bit of notice what clubs my FC's are using.
I've a mate who uses rebel stuff but he doesn't play in comps so not a problem for me. As far as other marks i doubt i'd know a bent one even if i fell over it.
