Got a Samsung American FF. last week it decided to start making noises. It’s the compressor/Fan that is making the noise. As soon as I open the fridge door, the fan stops. When you close it, it will restart as it attempts to bring temp down.

will look to defrost it today to see if there is any build up of ice on thermostats or fans.

Any experts out there. The fridge came with the house and quiet frankly, moving it will take some effort. It weighs a ton, Not sure how they put it there.

You remove the doors and all the shelving to move them, makes them a lot lighter;)

Sounds like build of ice hitting the fan. 2 obvious causes for that....prolonged leaving open of the doors or issues with it's own defrosting.

So after much YouTubing ... figured out that it was ice build up that was hitting the fan and hence the noise.

So defrosted some of the ice and the noise is gone/reduced. Now planning to run down the stock of food in the fridge and then defrost it completely. It should fix the noise problem. The bigger question is to see what caused the frost in the first place. It could be something as simple as the kids not closing the fridge door (idiots)

Would suggest either a defrost heater has failed or a door been left open for quite a long time.

Update:
had an engg call out. The guy visited in full PPE - face mask, gloves, boots.. I am not sure what he was expecting to solve. He said he wanted to protect himself as he has an underlying condition.

He looked at the evaporater coil and the thermostat/NTC. His view was both are ok but it is probably the relays. So needs a new PCB Module. A bit surprised tbh. Got a quote for about 160+VAT.

Did he check the defrost heater or the thermal fuses? It's probably down to the door being left open anyway, but that is poor diagnostics imo.

The frosting is not due to open door.. The fridge now frosts up every 10 days.

He checked the evaporater and NTC.. he showed me the reading - both had a positive number. I cant say i understood it. It said it was open and therefore not the problem. After he used a hair dryer to take some off the ice and then ready to close off. He took another reading and the fuses were a lower positive number. Which he said was proof that the relays were not working. So to change the relays, he said i have to take the PCB module

An update... the fridge started working magically and we never went ahead with the repair. In the past 2 days it has a new problem

The temperature seems to fluctuate between 15 and 5 degrees every 5-6 hours. The freezer is fine. I don’t know if the thermostat or the PCB is the problem. When the engineer checked it, the thermostat was fine.

The 15 degree is on for foods but not meats. The real challenge is that I can’t get any repairs nor can we buy a new fridge (since they won’t install or get it inside the house)

Anyone has any idea what could be wrong with it ?

If it happens on a constant 5-6 hr cycle it would suggest that is when it's is running it's defrost cycle. How quickly does it recover its temperature?
What temperature is the freezer running at,and does that alter at all?. Have you access the condenser coil (thats the black hot pipes coil that comes off the compressor? Being fan blown they tend to build up with fluff through time and that could cause the efficiency of the refridgeration system to drop. A vacuum an possibly a small brush is all you need to clean it.
TBH it is fairly difficult to diagnose without actually seeing it in person.

It’s a Samsung FF... as twin cooling, the freezer has been a constant -18. I guess the 5-6 cycle sounds about right (but can check)

Two days ago, there was an ice build up inside the Fridge. Mrs switched it off and used a hair dryer to take the ice out. It’s been playing up since then.

I thought the Samsung don’t have coils at the back - sealed underneath. Something I can check if I could move it.

It is stuck in a corner and difficult to move . Weighs a ton and will need another bloke to help me.

Looks like the mouse has been active behind the fridge.. i had put some poison down and it’s gone missing

I found this video... will give it a go cleaning it.. still have to find a way to move it in the first place
