Recently, my home course (Castlereagh Hills) has been undergoing construction work on two new holes and the addition of 15+ bunkers on numerous holes, which obviously is a good thing as it will no doubt make the course more challenging and enjoyable to play. My problem at the moment is that when I play during the week, I struggle to focus on my shots due to the constant hubbub of heavy machinery and builders shouting to one another, how would you deal with the constant noise in the interim?

You'll find that with background noise like that you will simply get used to it over a few rounds. Our course is next to a big hospital and all sorts of major building work has gone on over the years. Can't remember it really affecting me much.

I would suggest playing at Moray Old when 633 Squadron reform with the new Euro Fighter in a few months time. Them revving the bugger our of mac speed jet engines all afternoon during the week, will soon make a bit of building noise as pleasant and birdsong;)

Had several scares on East Lothian courses when the Tornados (I think) used to come over the Forth and play in amongst the Pentlands.

A couple of connections with a Cobra L4V puts background noise to shame too!

Walton Heath has a couple of holes where the M25 is really obvious - the sound of the ocean on this 'inland links'!

Hankley Common is the quietest place I know - except when the odd Chopper goes over.

If you are playing Monifieth or Carnoustie then the rattle of machine gun fire is one of the noises you just filter out.

Played Alford in midweek, which is right next door to Grampian Transport Museum - I'd forgotten how loud a car going round a track was.

To be honest I just blank any noises like that out - pretty much the only thing I pay attention to noise wise is someone shouting "fore"

That's a sight to behold, even the old Tornados put up quite a racket as they took off. You can almost count the rivets they are that low :)

Played Woodhall Spa when the Lancaster flew over at about 100 feet. Made an all mighty racket, but it was a magnificent sight.

As for the OP, get some ear plugs. Or possibly try not to worry about external influences as your game should be strong enough not to let the sound of a digger put you off?

it sure was, nice and quite there at the moment apart from the odd transport taking off.

Tain has a bombing range a few miles away and you used to get ground attack aircraft machine gunning at the far end of the course, not so much now though.

Loudest heard when playing golf is when the Vulcan came over one day !!

hubbub is fine. It's easy to tune a steady noise. The random shouts? Not so much. It could actually be good practice for you. Learn to play when there are distractions around you and filter them out and focus on the shot.

You get used to it. As was hinted at in an earlier post, Carnoustie Buddon is on land that used to be owned by the MOD and is still literally right next to an Army firing range. A dozen high velocity rifles going off during your backswing is not fun the first few times it happens, but its amazing how over time it almost becomes incidental. The range is close enough to the championship course that during the Open they have to persuade the army to desist from using it. Poor pampered pros can't handle it apparently!!!

The tornado is a lot louder at moray than the typhoon is, last year both were taking off over the course and the tornados were way louder and lower when heading over the 6th green.

Ignore it. No different surely to being at a driving range and all the normal commotion that goes on at those places. If you are concentrating on the task in hand the noise will drift into the peripheral anyway. Unless your related to Monty

It is during the day, but at night when the army are on night manoeuvres it is another matter. Living just up the road from Hankley it sounds like WW3 has started.

Our course is quiet except for the rumble of the odd tank.;)
