I was in a well known store today, on the look out for a new 5 wood. I loved hitting my old V-Steel on par 5's, from rough or fairway but having sold it like an eejit (compulsive shiney syndrome) this week, I have some cash + vouchers to fritter on a new toy.

So, a new 5W is what I want, and I shall have one. However, the eager and excited chap in said store was adamant I should be looking at hybrids, not 5 woods, "Nobody buys them anymore, you want a hybrid instead". Me, I say no, I want a 5 wood. I like the longer shaft and am not worried about hitting one from tee, fairway or rough. A 5 wood isn't a hard club for me to strike, and getting it airborne is also not an issue.

So, has anyone shunned the 5W for a hybrid, or are you like me and quite fond of the 5W?

And finally, the Callaway OptiForce Fairway, anybody had a crack?

I ordered two 5 woods from Golfbidder today to try them out this weekend. I have an RBZ 18deg hybrid and I dont like it so hope to enjoy the 5 wood a bit more.

No personal experience with the Optiforce but I played with a guy a couple of weeks ago who used it off the tee a lot and it ws by far his best club-he was raving about it.

In bag below - 19 degree in combi with shaft flies 230 yds. Along with extra loft and shaft length mentioned above gives great additional flexibility for varity of shots. That'll do me. I've 21 degree hybrid for stuff the 4I can do as well.

Went to a well known store recently - one with an american sounding name. They had loads. I had a waggle of pretty much everything they had, & then took 4 out onto the range. Don't remember the specific brands of three but they were a Ping, a Callaway, a Titleist, and a Wilson D100. Really, really wanted to like the Titleist best - but the Wilson out-performed everything in my opinion. Bought it, love it. Hybrid? Nah...

My 5 Wood is my favouite club, wouldn't part with it for love nor money. I wouldn't believe everything you get told in these golf stores, I've been given some strange advice on a few occasions. :mmm:

What you go for mate?

Trying a Cobra amp and a Cleveland ultralight. I have a Cleveland launcher which I like so figured I'd try that one. The cobra I've never hit before but I didn't want a tm and the rest were out my price range. They were both about £70 which is as much as I want to spend on it. Would love to try a titleist but can't justify the price right now.

If you don't get on with the amp I could be interested:thup:

Yeah love my 5 wood especially off the fairway but also good on our long par 3's.
If I had to choose between my 5 wood or 3 wood the 5 would win every time.

Just can't leave my 'steelhead plus' out my bag, i've tried to replace it on several occasions with hybrids but keep going back to the 'Cally', superb club and out performs my hybrids and 3 wood, note to self sell your nike 3 wood and hybrids.
