Right, so it's time for a rant!!!

I am tossing up between two clubs at the moment. Both are about the same distance from me here in North Liverpool, both around the same price (from What I've heard) However, trying to get precise information out of them as far as payment details etc is a nightmare!!

Are all clubs like this? It's like email is a brand new thing and phoning people when you said you would is also a concept well and truly lost on these people. It's put me right off if I am totally honest. If they treat new customers like this how are existing members treated?

I long for a club to be ran correctly, new members are welcomed with open arms and treated with a bit of respect! Surely that's not too much to ask?

The 9 Hole Muni I am at currently is miles better than this (from a management perspective)

Rant over!

I would, but I can't get details of who to contact when I get there / when it's convienient etc.

Then go onto their website and email the secretary and I am sure they will get back to you.
What you have to remember though at this time of the year they wont be there every day I suspect.

Hope you find a good club you cant beat that.

It does seem that some Clubs are a bit behind the times.

I'd booked to play with a buddy at a Club about 100 miles away. Being tied in meetings I emailed to confirm they'd reserved a buggy the day before since we'd be leaving home earlier.

When we arrived at the Pro-shop I asked why they'd not responded - the stupid reply " Ah well we don't monitor the emails everyday".

Its also disgusting to note few Clubs keep their website up-to-date; why have incorrect information - plainly poor management?

Emails are a fact of modern life.

Down South I organise a number of societies each year pretty much all done via email and it is a smooth operation with the 2 or 3 dozen clubs I have dealt with. Info searched on web-sites. Dates requested via email contracts sent via email signed by me and sent back via email. Only real phone contact is to pay the deposit after which the receipt is emailed through. This year I have booked 5 society days all researched and booked, in about 7 days.

Hey slow down there boy with your new fangled ways of communicating that I am convinced will never catch on. What's wrong with a nice hand written letter? Preferably on parchment?

I'd be inclined to just turn up and have wander round, head to the pro shop and I'm sure he'll help you.

If Wet Derby is on your list, personally I'd scrub it off and save your dosh ;)

Do they have things called a telephone up there yet? Call them and speak to the secretary directly

Why should you have to. If there is an email address it should be manned and emails reply to. When I was first looking for a club I disregarded any that did not reply to emails. I want to get basic info first before I spend time heading down to a club and looking in more detail. People should not have to make up for a clubs inadequacy in dealing with the most convenient form of communication. Any club that ignores emails is reflected in a poor light in my book

Not saying you should "have to" but surely a quicker way of making contact to get the information

Folk are quick to blame.
The financial downturn has caused many clubs to cut staffing to the bone.
May not be the managers fault, could be the members for failing to vote to spend sufficient money for the club to work efficiently.

As Stu said.. I find the best way to get a feel for somewhere is just turn up and see the Pro, they'll probably show you round and take you in to the Secretary.

Initially I would hold the fact they're poor at answering emails against them.
Just turn up and have a chat.

100% agree with this. That's my main gripe!

I wholeheartedly agree. When I started up from scratch a couple of years ago, I emailed half a dozen local clubs asking about lessons. Only 1 replied (the posh one with a local reputation for exclusivity, and incidentally, they couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly and inclusive). That's not only 1 replied straight away, but only 1 every replied. I'd have thought a chap emailing for lessons to get started would want to be snapped up by any local pro - the prospect of lessons, equipment and ultimately membership should have been a reasonable incentive.

In this day and age, if you don't reply to emails promptly, you miss out.
