I was browsing the Dorset county website at forthcoming competitions and saw the South England boys open. Had a look at the details and it states on the entry form that shorts may not be worn on competition days.

This seems a very strange decision to me in this day and age, particularly for a junior competition.

Turned up for the Welsh Handicap Championships at Celtic Manor last year and was on the tee 10 minutes before my tee time only to be told that shorts were not allowed in any of the GUW Championships. I was asked why I had not seen the signs when registering but as my lift had let me down one of the other team members had registered me.

We were playing the Montgomery course and it was a bit of a hike back to the car park but one of the officials took me in a buggy and I got back to the tee just as they were calling our group to the tee.

Durham County Golf Union have lifted their ban on shorts in County Comps as at 01 April this year, never knew they'd always banned them previously.

Devon County rules for the Junior Basil Steer competition are... http://www.devongolf.org.uk/uploads/devon/File/tournaments/matchplay/Rules%20and%20Conditions/2016-BasilSteerRules.pdf

 Do not wear shorts, unless a special dispensation is granted. (Players must comply with the
requirements of the host club as directed by team managers.)

 Shirts must be tucked in; do not roll up sleeves for either comfort or tanning.

How strict they are I am not sure, as our matches were played in not shorts weather any way!
