We haven't had any rain for weeks up here and the fairways are really firming up which in my head should equate to more roll on my tee shots. I've been playing for 15-16 years now and am self taught , got myself to a steady 10 and play relatively close to that most weeks. My trouble is that for forever I've driven it relatively straight but i never ever get any roll on the fairways. My playing partners quite frequently land it 20-30 yards shorter than me but end up being the same distance further past.

I'm looking for an equipment fix rather than going down the lessons route. I use my golfing pass for playing and want to continue that way. Is there a particular driver that people recommend or is it just a case of "get what you're given" and get on with it.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone experiences anything similar and if there's any hardware to recommend? Happy to consider anything really and happy to go well back in time too.

I think you need to get on a launch monitor and find out your numbers, you could be getting too much spin hence the lack of roll.

If the numbers are ok perhaps a change of shaft could help, it's what i've done it the past.

What is your ball flight?

If you hit high bombs with steep landing angle they will sit up

I have playing partners who hit very low bullets and get loads of roll out, we have very dry fairways too.

I have the same issue i have a high left to right fade that looks great in the air but probably only has 10 - 20 yards of roll, Playing partner has a very low draw and he lands it 75% of the distance but can sometimes roll pass mine.

I made a change on sunday where i lowered my tee. It looked an uncomfrotable off putting height to start with but i was hitting it maybe 20 yards shorter but overall 30 yards longer as i was getting roll.

I had to be careful now though on the narrower holes as it would roll off the right hand side of the fairway

as others have said could be the amount of spin you are putting on the ball. Ive got two mates who carry the ball 20-30 yards less than me with the drive, but they still manage to sneak one past on a regular basis.

I wouldn't necessarily be concerned if I were you.

I hit the ball relatively high with my driver, but the height means I actually get more carry than if I hit it lower. I prefer to have carry than roll out. Roll out is no use in the winter and is generally less reliable, e.g. what if you're hitting up hill? Better to carry it further I would say.

A good idea (as others have suggested) is to get on a launch monitor and get an idea of your spin numbers. The optimum launch is high with low spin (I think?). You might already be doing that. Obviously if it's ballooning then there is room for improvement.

Prov1x claims to have more roll out than a proV1 - maybe a ball change would help.

Carry is better than roll, you can't roll it through a bunker or ditch!:p

We have turned down Adams driver loft from 10.5 to the min which I think is 8.5, he always had a high ball flight due to flicking and not a lot of roll. But by turning the loft down the ball flight is definitely lower and he appears to be getting more roll out as a result, as he is now out driving me whereas before I would typically outdrive him.

Thanks for your input chaps. I don't want to appear to complain about hitting it straight and finding fairways, i know that it's a "strength" in my game but distance and roll out is a definite weakness too and i was seeking any hardware help or advice . Launch monitor seems to be the way to go and at least that way i'll be able to understand the science behind it .

If you do find a head/shaft combination that hits it lower with less spin and therefore more roll, what happens when you want to hit it high?

I've never had trouble with "ballooning" or hitting it too high, i just don't seem to get any roll out at all. I'm not looking to hit it lower just for it to move forward when it lands. Maybe that's not possible but with so many golfers on here i thought i'd pose the question and seek some advice.
