Played in the Comp last week with a +1 handicapper and was doing well. Came to the 14th and sliced into the rough under some trees. The +2 was on the green. I came to where my ball was and saw 2 balls. By then he had condescended to come back and look for my ball. The other ball was 3 foot in front of mine. He saw it a picked it up and said PROv1X and into his pocket it went.

I tackled him the next day and he said the ball was too good for me and offered a new Srixon! Would not mind but he receives new balls when he plays for The County, usually has a prize for the best gross each week and also each round a couple of 2's in each Competition.

Obviously the problem will not go away yet . It is not £3 but the principle, although it must be to him.

Apart from embarrassing further what would you do please?

You didn't pick it up, he did - it doesn't really belong to either of you, you are no worse off than you were before you saw it and there is much more to worry about in life than a golf ball that he isn't going to give you!

I would report him to the committee without question... I would also spread rumours he only plays golf because his has a fetish for men in odd looking clothes and is often seen with a dog lead without a dog on the course!!

He's clearly left you no other choice, you're going to have to buy your own ProV1x ball and see how you play with it. If you play like a knob you'll have to conceed his point
