For the first time in a while I've played no golf on Saturday.

Went up to the club this morning to book on for a forthcoming competition and the car park was full. Good for the club I thought as it was an Open comp underway today and as such there were many visitors playing, as was confirmed by the guys asking for Strokesavers in the Pro shop!

As my club doesn't offer Strokesavers I wondered how a club goes about getting one made?
Does a private company cme out and measure the course for the relevant yardages etc.

As my club has no immediate plans to offer them I wondered if it was possible to make your own. Google Earth has very good overhead imagery, probably covered by copyright though.
I just wondered about drawing the holes and marking on distances found by using Google Earth.

Good idea or waste of time?

I would have thought the outlay initially would be high as they would need to come in and measure, take pictures etc to show the hole design. I guess the remuneration would come in repeat sales (unless the club then makes alterations to the course)

I'm sure others on here have used google earth and providing you didn't sell the guide for porfit you'd be fine to use it for your own purpose
