Played Temple Newsam golf club with some guys from work this morning. Teed off at 10:00, in the rain, fortunately it didn’t last long and all in all it was a decent outing. Three four balls, four hour round, got back to the clubhouse. No food! Are they daft? Don’t they realize that if you tee off at 10:00 you are likely to want some sustenance when you reach the 19th? It is beyond belief. I could have eaten and would have paid for a scabby dog. 12 guys in the clubhouse and they don’t have so much as a pickled onion. What an opportunity missed.. No wonder I take a drink….

Were there any signs to warn you beforehand. At a lot of clubs Monday is a notoriusly quiet day and many shut the kitchen or run it on shorter hours. I know when RA was in the middle of the racetrack the kitchen was shut on a Monday

Not that its any consolation but when we went to Lydd last year the kitchen shut at 3 on a Saturday. Bearing in mind it was a weekend, decent weather and supposedly a competition day we were the only ones in the clubhouse and they wouldn't even rustle up a sandwich

I must admit, it does beggar belief how some of these places are run.

Take my club for example; i love the place apart from one thing that really makes me wonder. They don't open the bar\kitchen until 11am each and every day of the week.

I don't think I've been to one club, or maybe one, where I've not been able to get a bite of breakfast before teeing off in the morning...

Sounds Hellish, our club is open at 8 for coffee etc and then all day until 9pm for food. It's popular with non golfers for meals but we have a lounge at the side with a large TV etc. Brings in a lot of income and keeps the green fees down.

I remember playing at Chesterton near Bicester years ago. Saturday afternoon about 2.30/3pm 4 of us finished and came in to have a drink and some lunch.
Nobody about.
No members, shop staff, bar staff, management - nobody.
We could have walked off with anything we could carry. We got some bottled beers from the fridge, left some money, had a few games of Snooker and left an hour later. :D

My old club closes the bar certain afternoons as its so quiet - they've had so many people in to run it but they all leave becasue they can't make any money.

Ours opens at 10 so in a similar boat really. The guy is on a franchise but it must be worth his while at the weekends to get in early and do some food. OK it might take a few weeks for word to get round and there may be a hit cost wise to start but if guys knew they could reliably get food before teeing off then he'd make a killing

Was at an outing last year through here where after a great days golf there was no catering on!

Not going to name and shame the organiser however he plays at an Open qualifier course just over the Tay bridge and his user name begins with an S and ends in a 9!

To be honest there is nothing worse than coming off the course hank marvin looking forward to a bite and getting told there's no catering! :D :D ;) ;)

I played a work society do once a few years back in the summer. I can't remember the course but was around guildford somewhere. There were 30 of us, we tee'd off about 13:00 and when we got back to the clubhouse, the bar was closed! Not even so much as a coke and a bag of crisps.

We have the same situation at ours.
All they would need to do in the mornings on weekends is limit the menu, sausage or bacon sanwiches, tea or coffee.
No need for anything fancy!!!

There are two versions of a full English (the 9 hole and the 18) which I think is fairly standard on most club menus. If you limited the choice to that and sausage/bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee there would still be demand
