No Black Friday for Asda

I hear that Asda are not doing a 'Black Friday' promotions day - as their customers have had enough of it (that didn't take long but I'm not surprised given the chaos and greed it engenders).

And so for this action plaudits from me to Asda. I hope others follow their lead - one horrible US import that we would be well served to be shot of.

Got my S1 at a major discount from amazon on black Friday last year. Would not have got it otherwise. There is a difference between online and instore. Instore has turn into a mass of horrible people behaving in an awful fashion. Online is just a fun day of bargains.

Actually they've stopped doing it cos it put their pre-Christmas sales down.

So, right decision yes, but not worthy of any plaudits for making a business decision!

Only going by what was reported on the BBC News at 6pm about Asda saying 'customers didn't want it' - though I did know that a lot of retailers were hating it as it really messed up their Christmas trading.

Doesn't stop me applauding their decision to can it - sooner others do the same the better - even if they also just do it for business reasons.

What seems to of been overlooked was that it was ASDA through Walmart its American owners that actually introduced Black Friday in the first place to the UK

People can only spend their money once. Black Friday being in November, just means that most spend less in the January sales. I think ASDA called it shopper fatigue.

You really must stop believing companies marketing/PR teams pretending they are doing things for 'their customers' when it is in fact a purely commercial decision for them to make more money. It could get you in a lot of trouble if you do. This club replaces the one I bought 6 months ago and it will give me 10 extra yards you say, really, where do I get them!!

I think most of the black Friday stuff was bought in especially to be sold off cheap it generates business for companies and more often than not people will buy more than they intended whilst in store. Asda saying shopper fatigue is a cop out (or should that be Klopp Out? ) and the money they had planned to use over the weekend on adverts etc will be spent on the hole festive season instead. Most people will only have Novembers pay day before xmas so if they buy presents on 28th black Friday they wont be spending in Dec anyway.
