Have you ever tried or seen someone play golf with no backswing before they make a stroke and how did you/they do, what's the detrimental effect on ball flight/distance/dispersion etc?

After reading another thread just having idle thoughts of the effect of having a start posture a bit like a baseball player does for their game I guess with club/bat already 'stationary' in its top of the swing and player in 'loaded' position so you only execute downswing

Have you tried it and what happened?
What's likely to be the difference to swing speed, club-head speed & shaft flex etc

Anyone going to the range today want to give it a go and let us know

I know of two Shinty players who have no backswing and left below right grip. one hits it miles the other not so, but that age more than anything.

Try it.... not a chance;)

Sandy Lyle used a similar method on tour for a while many years ago. If I recall correctly he started from a static position with the hands about shoulder high (on the backswing) and then he completed the backswing and then downward to the ball.

I do this quite often at the range. Get into the correct top of backswing position, check in mirror then swing down. Usually get a decent shot, usually a bit shorter than a normal one, but sometimes about the same. Once saw John Jacobs on TV demonstrating the top of swing position. He talked for a good few minutes then swung down & hit a perfect shot.

its easy to do ,i do it at the range all the time ,the ball go`s just as far and straight .
i use it as a timing thing to try and get a slight pause at the top of my normal backswing .
yeh it feels strange when you first do it but you soon pick it up and the results will surprise you .
as yet i havent taken to hitting like this on the course but have used it in my warm up before going out ,and as a precurser to hitting a tee shot while waiting for fc`s to play their shots.
